Hi there i'm new here!! I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with my second child and am experiencing a lot of pain in my hips, its not so bad during the day but when i get in bed i can hardly move and have cried with the pain, my hubby doesn't know what to do for the best, and its awkward if i have to get up in the night with my 2 year old!!!

Anyone else had anything similar??

I get this all the time. I roll over from side to side all through the night because of it. That and I cant lay on my back or it will hurt, plus I'm not supposed to. (Even though it hurts anyway) And I obviously cannot lay on my stomach at this point.
I dont know what to tell you to make it better though, as I still get this feeling.

I got it about the same time as you. It comes and goes. Now it's moved into my pubic bone. I went to a chiropractor and he adjusted my pelvic bone and it helped a TON!

I get this, too. Have you talked to your midwife? It's probably being caused by the hormone relaxin, which loosens the ligaments in the hips and groin area. This loosening allows the hips to widen during childbirth to let the baby through, but it also means you loose a lot of the support you had there before you were pregnant. The pain can be worse if you already had a weakness in the hips, and can sometimes lead to recurring dislocation during pregnancy.

Talk to your midwife and she will probably refer you to see a physiotherapist who can fit you with a femibrace, which will support your bump and hold you in all place (basically doing the job of yer ligaments while yer preggers). In the mean time you could take paracetemol for the pain, but not ibuprofen unfortunately.

Good luck!

I have the same thing happening too and was about to post a question on this. I didn't have tis problem with my first, but with my 4 year old I didnt have the pain in my hips it was all in my pelvis but didn't start until the 3rd tri. Sorry to hear you are experiencing the same pain, but at least i know I am not alone with this. I go to the Dr. on Friday and I will be sure to talk to him about this.

I've had pain in my left hip, when I'm sitting down if I sit on the floor I have to sit cross legged otherwise my hip really hurts. Even sitting at my desk it gets sore and a little uncomfortable at night but at the moment I can still sleep. (touch wood)

Stace xx
