I haven't done this with my kids but I used to go to France like this with my parents & sister every year.
As I remember the hardest part all round was the car journey. Plan your stops as much as you can & have car games ready. Maybe the older kids could have some of those books where you have to spot things & tick them off? & I second the DVD players. Plus, if you can do any travelling at night, the kids might sleep a bit.
When we have been abroad I would say the things you need are:
Baby wipes (great for sticky hands & faces in the car)
A drink cup each to fill up - non spill for the car
Pillows - for the car
Games for rainy days
Snacks for the car/breakfast bars in case you don't get to the shops on your first day before everyone gets hungry
Tea bags (I always take tetleys abroad )
Once you're there the swimming pool/ entertainment etc will be enough to keep everyone occupied. I used to love going to France with my family. Have a great time!!!
When we travel I make the kids bingo boards with things to tick off such as "Eddie stobart truck", double decker bus", "green tractor" etc. Plus some snacks lol.
