After reading about this a lot on here recently, I decided to dip one of my spare pregnancy tests in the toilet bowl tonight after I'd been to see if it's pregnant

Turns out it is, got a better than I did at 11dpo

I had to share with someone, and everyone else will think I'm crazy, sorry

With my last pregnancy, I did one at 27dpo, so about 6 weeks and it was my strongest bfp.

oops, nevermind. I didn't read that properly. I used concentrated urine.

Have noticed this recently. Thursday I noticed my tests were getting lighter, and had heard of hook effect so I diluted the same urine with some water and tests went darker again, glad I'm not the only one!

Gosh, that's good to know! I'm not even quite 5 weeks, but if I hadn't learned about this hook effect phenomenon I would probably have kept testing and freaked out when the lines got lighter. Thanks for the heads-up!

I never thought of dipping it in the toilet, I always thought about peeing in a pot then adding water. I have a few ics left I may end up trying this lol

I am possibly 8 wks prego. I keep getting negative tests. I missed Januarys period and am currently almost 3 days late for this month. I haven't tested in a week but I am going to in the morning. If I test for hook effect how much water should i dilute my urine with?

It's hard to say, have you had any positive tests since you missed your first period? I had been diluting 2/3 urine to 1/3 water last week but it doesn't seem to be working as well now. Did it this evening, and while the diluted test was darker than the other, it was still not very dark, so I may not have used correct amount of water (would have been more worried except that my US yesterday confirmed that button is growing exactly on schedule). If you haven't been able to confirm your pregnancy with home tests yet but you are this long without a period I would definitely get doctor to do tests to confirm pregnancy and rule out anything else.

I am 6w and have only had 1 BFP myself. Al the others (included diluted ones!) were BFN. I have an appt Mon with my OB. I suggest you go see yours too!
