Hey ladies

Hope that you are all doing okay! :hugs:

Well i kinda had some positive news - i know it make sme sound a bit daft but someone who's DH had a low sperm count similar to mine showed a rise from 1 million up to 20 million after 3 months - he had low motility and so they still needed ICSI but that's good on the whole huh??

We got told DH's motility and morphology was 'normal' but the thought that his count could rise up that good by the end of November gave me some hope! Maybe the DR was being a bit quick saying it was definitely going to be IVF??

Either way i'm good to go - feeling buoyant!! And i lost another pound so the BMI for the IVF is getting closer!! woo hooo!!!!:dance::dance:

That sounds good - I wonder if he did anything differently to increase it like that?

Congratulations on your weight loss - I'm really trying hard to loose some weight at the mo but it's not shifting!

Thats is good news hun, in our position any positive is fantastic, well done on the weight loss! i started a diet last week and lost 1lb! its not a lot but a lb a week would do me fine as long as it kept coming off, good luck :hugs:

A pound is all good - that's what i lost this week!! I need to shed the weight i have put on since TTC... ha ha... i think i kinda like my fat belly it gave me comfort sans baby!! nutter i know!

Re the improvement on the SA front, she said he took multi-vits, ate healthy, lost weight, loose pants etc. I think if DH doesn't show an improvement after not drinking at all, he will lose the plot! We are off on hols next week too so some good news pre Francias would be a bonus, and then he could have a cheeky stella! xx

i hope you get some good news Rachelle

How long do you have to wait for IVF if you have to have it? xx

Hey bird

No idea how long the wait is at all. On Kingston Hospital PCT site it refers it to St Mary's in Sidcup for fertility treatment so depends on how long that wait is??

Spoke to DH and we will go private rather than wait anyway - we can't even start TTC again until end of November so by then i should be closer to my target and hopefully 2009 will start with me having a smaller ass and on the way to having my own bubba!!x

hey girls, quick question-I've never really thought sperm mobility (is that the right term) was our problem but I recently hear on the news that men over age 40 have a HUGE drop in viable swimmers. With that said, I'm already in that group (hubby is 45) and it sounds like from above that since the man lost weight, ate health etc, that helped. Heres my question (finally, right!) DOES WEIGHT, HEALTH affect the swimmer? My husband doesn't get much sleep, he works at night in bed with his computer on his lap (YIKES) wears tight white underwear...getting the picture? But he is always overweight so just thinking even if his swimmers aren't our main issue we could go a long way improving them, huh-

Hey JJF

I think that the reports are all 'relative' - some men prob do have a decline post 40 but not all.

If he was to improve his diet and follow all of the healthy bits then i'm sure it would help - laptop on the lap is one of the worst things apparently due to the heat - along with hot baths. Most fertility books will give you a list of things that the male can improve on and that should help. Maybe if he gets a SA he will have a better picture?

...and it's funny. I read all the books that said you should prep yourselves 3 months before TTC - improve your diet/health etc. And i kinda thought it was crap becuase so many people fall so quickly and effortlessly! Hindsight is a great thing..... now i think 3 months of getting health and researching TTC would prob have helped us in the long run!

Yay its all good news for you.
On the PCT front - do you only have the option of one hospital? I can use 5 or 6 (wanted St Marys in Manchester - but well over 2 years waiting list to see consultant for 1st appt, so choose Bolton). I can also use hospitals that aren't in the Bury/Roachdale PCT, and even if there IVF options are less than Bury (which is 3) I still get the 3 that Bury would allow me as that is the area which I live in - hope all that makes sense.
Just thinking that it might be worth you seeing if there is any other options on the NHS route before you go private

Thanks Sinead - not sure re the options of hospitals. Kingston is our closest but i think until the urologist sits us down for a 'chat' we won't have a better idea! i love running around like a headless chick me!!

Have a feeling we won't know what we are doing for a couple of months! (apart from not ttc at least!!)

Anyone got any idea how long a referral to a urologist would be for DH?!?! rather obscure i know..... just wondering if they are talking months or because they are monitoring his low count it would be sooner rather than later??
