Is this only in my area? My friend who is due in two weeks, was going to birth in a MLU, now has to go into hospital due to minor complications.

When she mentioned to the CMW about taking her birthing ball into hospital the MW told her they had now been banned after a lady used one at a Nottingham hospital which burst on her. The lady is suing the hospital apparently.

Anyone heard anything about this?

Not heard this but i will make a note so i can ask mw x

Haven't heard about this.. but if the lady brought her own ball in with her and it burst, how the heck can she sue the hospital?! It wasn't their fault! sounds like a case of watching too much american programs..lol... What is wrong with the world :dohh:

i know its ridiculous... I'm only hearing the story second hand (and probably handed down 10 times over) but apparently it was her ball and she lied about her weight and what the ball was rated for.

:dohh: sounds like a waste of court time and resources.. it should be thrown out!
that being said.. I think it may be up to individual hospital policy if you are able to bring a ball in.. they may not have room, may make it harder to move patients to a recovery room etc.. if there is an emergency it could get in the way.. etc etc...
i LOVE my ball and wish I could bring it with me, but here in Spain.. I will be in a labour ward, then moved to birthing room, then moved to recovery room/ overnight room.. so they don't want a ball bouncing around in there.. :haha:
I will just be staying at home as long as possible and using it there. :flower:

Some hospitals also have their own balls, to prevent the kind of issue with a woman bringing in a faulty ball and then blaming the hospital.

I was offered a hospital birthing ball during my last labor, but was already too far into the 'I don't want to get out of bed' zone when they offered it. This time I plan on taking full advantage of it AND the jetted tub!

those balls are dangerous :haha:
i nearly flipped off the back of mine during labour but it was my own fault haha!!

i dare my MW to try and take mine off me..............

i love my ball and firmly believe it will make labour faster and be a great tool to cope with pain (PLEASE do not tell me i am wrong, i believe it therefore it will be..........)

I totally get why they feel the need to do this. When I was having Louie there was one in the room and I couldn't resist the urge to space hopper stylee bounce it down the corridor which caused issues for others trying to get through. It wasn't my fault... the hospital provided the temptation...

Down with balls I say! :jo:

When i had Darcy they had a birthing ball in the room which me and the hubby had a great time bouncing it as high as we could we were trying to bounce it off the ceiling  but we got busted!
