FML Trying to get a house and it's mad I sware £400 deposit for partly furnished i.e. no sofa, table,chairs, beds

Like WTF the only to lett house in the whole town and it has FA in it and they want a huge lump sum to start with !!!!!



Im I entitled to a grant for furniture Im on income support?? xxx

renting is crazy, our rent is only £500 a month but we had to put down an £800 deposit and it's unfurnished!! We were living off tuna and beans for a very long time. Thankfully though for the size of house and ground we have the rent is VERY cheap (3 bedroom cottage on a country estate with a huge garden and lots of other random bits of land) so that's why we bit the bullet.

Not sure if you're elligible for any help. Could you maybe call the jobcentre and ask them? Hope you find something!

I thought a month up front and a month's deposit was normal practise for private lets, hun - many round here now ask 2 months up front if you're claiming housing benefit (or whatever it's called now) IF you can find someone to rent to you to start with

If you've been on IS for more than 6 months you can claim a budgeting loan - you do have to pay it back but it's taken out of your benefit and at a low rate. I don't know if there are any grants (that you don't have to pay back) that you can claim.

you could always try freecycle for some furniture which would do you until you saved up etc.

Contact the Jobcentre and ask them if you would be eligible for a loan. Other than that, the Citizen's Advice Bureau may be able to help identify some funding (maybe through a local charity or something).

Renting round here is crazy!

I've been looking for a 2 bed house and its £650 at least - and for a deposit you have to pay a month in advance AND a month and a half deposit.

That's £1625!!!!
