Hi :)

I'm nearly 4 months pregnant, single and live with my mum, brother, mums bf and her son so house is crowded!!

When can I claim a house? I've found 1 and it's 595 a month how much will they help pay? It's a 3 bedroomed but it's from a housing group, they've said I can have it but need to sort social out etc so will they help me with deposit etc??

I'm on job seekers at the minute but want to know what am entitled to until babys old enough for me to work

Thanks you

Hi, yes if you are on jobseekers I think you can claim housing benefit. The amount you get depends on the area you live in but I think generally you can claim for around 90 odd a week and you should get the maximum if your not working. This mean you will have to put the rest to your rent, around 200. I don't think they help with deposit but you could probably claim for a community care grant and some other stuff if your on jobseekers. I would go to your nearest citizens advice centre or jobcentre. Im not sure if the baby has to be born first or if you could claim when pregnant but they could tell you. As for benefits once babys born, I think you are entitled to income support (around 70 a week) and child tax credits, and also child benefit (80a month).

Some local authorities (la's) have a bond scheme. They will help with the deposit, ring your la to find out.

You will be entitled to the 2bedroom rate of lha. If its you and child moving into house. Have a look on Here at what the 2 bed rate is in your area https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/search.aspx

If it is just you and your under 35 them you will only get the the shared bedroom rate. Which is not much help at all. Soon as your child is born you will get the extra room

If you are on job seekers allowance at the income based rate then you will have the full lha rate for 2 beds.

I imagine you will have a shortfall between the rent and housing benefit.

In these circumstance you can apply for a dhp (discretionary housing payment) this is a discretionary payment that's can be given to benefit claimants to help pay the remainder of rent. Some la's also use the dhp scheme to help claimants get a bond. Your la may do this. Where I work we don't as we would prefer to give money to help with the shortfall however we do have a bond scheme.

I dont think they will giveyou a 3 bed houseas you dont need one, but you will get child tax credit around £60 a week, child benefit £20 a week and income support £67.50 a week.
:) good luckwith your new baby!
