LO is a month old and often comfort sucks. Sometimes he will eat then we will play, change him, everything and he will be upset but not showing signs of hunger and the minute I put my boob in his mouth he calms down but hardly eats. I honestly don't have a problem with this and love the cuddles :) but I was wondering if this will cause issues later on?

Also, my puppy bunches up a blanket between his paws and then "nurses" on it. Apparently he comfort sucks too.

He is so young i would not worry about it. They need alot of comfort when they are so tiny. My 1st would never ever refuse the booby but weaning him was not a problem at all.

It's not bad at all. Comfort sucking is natural and part of building milk supply.

It's fine, and also great for your milk supply. Don't worry about it.

Not bad at all. its good for them to get all the comfort they need.

P.s My dog still does this and he's 3!!!

I wouldn't worry about it. You're providing your baby with comfort and security. There's certainly no harm in that!

okay thank you everyone! I thought it was fine but hearing my MIL tell me he seems to be eating way too often put doubt in my mind! Why do I listen to her anyway? haha

Jennbear! so happy to hear my dog is not alone! I just thought he was a little strange :)

Not bad at all.

Comfort sucking is great for your supply and what could be bad about having immediate comfort for your babe anyway :)

Thats what I was thinking! Its great having something attached to me that I can just pull out and make LO happy! haha

You'll be very thankful for comfort sucking when nothing else seems to calm them down. It's like a secret weapon as it instantly calms them. Much better than pacifiers as they can't lose boobies and they don't get dirty. :haha:

As long as you are okay with it,it's fine. It was bothering my nipples so we introduced a pAcifier at 4 weeks. It helped when I just couldn't take any more.

Perfectly fine so long as your nips are in ok condition. Mine were in really rough shape for 2 months, and looking back it probably would have helped to have unlatched him when he fell asleep. But I sure did love those sleepy baby snuggles :)

They are secret weapons... boobies are the answer for everything! :haha: Even now at 13.5 months if he falls, bumps his head, doesn't get his way, is scared, is nervous, etc. etc. a few sips of the boob and he feels much better!

It's great for your supply too.. you'll have a better supply with more frequent feeds than longer feeds less often. Don't listen to that MIL and boob him whenever necessary, even if it feels like it's alllllllllllll day long :hugs:

At 19 months old, my LO still nurses comfort, especially if he's teething. I think it's great for bonding, so I personally don't see any problem with it :)

Oh its wonderful for them!!! Theres a reason why it works so well ;) its what we are supposed to do, its a natural tool we were given! any baby, especially that young if weren't nursing would probably be sucking on a pacifier instead. Its just what lo needs right now:)

I think it is great that something so simple can give so much comfort. Boobie is the answer to every problem. Why make a sweet little baby cry for ages when a boob will calm them in seconds.

I agree withevery comment on here, and ignore the mil!! Mine made me feel bad, like i was over filling him or something! But now I wish I'd told her where to go! Lucky I carried on giving him the boob whenever wherever and no I have the best supply. I always think, I'd rather look back and think I gave him too many cuddles than not enough (even thou its not technically cuddling but you get the jist!!)
