I am a nervous wreck...im scheduled for my LAP on Feb 15th and im already flippin out about it. I've never had general anesthesia before and I hear that after general anesthetic you can experience nausea and vomiting:sick:. Ive heard horror stories!!! PLease help me prepare on how i may feel.

Any of you ladies experience this?? How bad did you feel after?? I need more confirmation!!

Thanks ladies!!

Talk to your doctor about drinking a lot of clear liquids the day before. My doctor had me do a total fast from the day before in the morning. I had to take a lot of nasty stuff to completely empty my system and then drink a lot of gatoraid and water or clear broth. I drank A LOT. I thought I couldn't drink any more. She said the purpose was to help with the recovery and anesthesia.
When I woke up, I instantly felt cold and was shaking, but that soon passed. Then I rested for about and hour and a half in recovery, had some ginger ale and some crackers and then went home. I was fuzzy, but it wasn't bad at all.
I didn't have nausea or vomiting so perhaps the pre day fast and all those liquids to hydrate me really did help out.
Good luck to you!

I would just tell the aneathesist about fear of vomitting (they give you something). You dont have anything to worry about. You wont remember anything. I was also a bit cold and shaky and i drank a lot of tea (was soooooo yummy) with lots of sugar and that sorted me out. I was good to go an hour later (after i peed). I was pretty groggy but alert (weird thing that). I couldnt sleep after but i went home and rested and watched a LOT of TV. And take all your drugs on time. Dont be brave. Take them. your body needs them, especially the anti inflamatories..............

hi....i would love to know this too hun!! im due to have a lap & dye on the 2nd feb.....2 of my close friends have had it done & i dont know if they are just being nice to me but they both said it really is nothing to worry about, they said it was fine. im worried about having the GA while my dh isnt there..i want him there & 2 c his face as i go 2 sleep, does that sound silly of me!!? im worried about the procedure, i only have 1 ovary so i dont want it removed!!!!!!!!!!!! i hear bout these horror stories that they wake up & are told that they had to have a certain organ or whatever removed as the endo or cyst on it was so bad .....im gonna make sure my surgeon knows that i want NOTHING removed apart from endo ect if they find any......think he comes round & speaks to you b4 the op ???? also worried about the time it will take to recover.....

good luck and i will let you know how i get on!! xxx

Dancingkaty1 - Make sure you have a good doc. I have a unicornuate uterus (which means half my uterus developed into a min uterus and the ovary and tube attached there cant conceive now. He left the horn (they call it a horn) as in his opinion, the less you fiddle and remove the better the vascular outcome of organs.

I think most doctors only remove if there is no other choice.............

I was a nervous wreck as well hun. Never had a GA either. When they come round to see them tell them you are nervous and scared of being sick and they give you something else that stops it. They where brilliant with me, He explaqned exactly what would happen while i was going under and it happened exactly how they described it. They where really calming. I was told to take lots of deep breaths when i was going under and i didint so when i can round i was low on oxegen. I didint feel like i was they just told me i was so i had to stay that night but i didnt come back till gone 6 anyway. I was groggy like if you where having a really deep sleep and someone wakes you up. Except that it lasts longer. I wasnt sick, i maybe felt it a little but that could of been cause i was thinking about ii. I would never worry about having a GA again.

i've had 2 laparoscopies my most recent one was on monday.
it depends on what you have done during you lap and how you will feel upon waking up.
if its just the lap and dye you will feel discomfort in your shoulder blades and rib cage for a few days after the procedure. they put air into your organs so that it is easier for the camera to see inside.
for me this is what causes the most discomfort, it just takes a few days for the gas to get reabsorbed into your blood stream, then a few days later you will just feel your stitches getting a bit tight but it's nothing you won't be able to manage.
just take the painkillers they give you.
they made me stay in over night after my lap on monday as im pregnant and waiting to m/c and they said my insides had loads of scar tissue in it from previous surgery so they did a big clean out and my bp was low so they made me stay in
you might not feel as hungry a few days after but just drink fluids.
everyone body's recovery is different, but i've had 2 now and i'm still alive, sore but ok. i can only lie on my left hand side as on my back and right hand side it's too painful, but the gas has nearly all gone out of my system.
i realise i've painted not a nice picture but these are my 2 experiences, but everyone is different. but don't worry you will be fine after a few days. they won't let you home until they are happy you are ok

Had my lap in November and I felt a bit groggy when I woke up, but i wasn't sick or nauseous. The pain was ok with strong painkillers and went after a day or so. There was nothing that would put me off having it again but it did take me longer to feel 100% than I thought - about 3-4 days till I could function pretty normally and over a week until I didn't feel tired.

Good luck

x

When I had my Lap when i was 18 they were only having a look to see if anything was wrong but when i came round they have removed a huge amount of stage four endometriosis that they discovered whilst in there, i absolutely loved being put to sleep and when i came round i felt groggy but went home a few hours later, i was sore and if im honest the worst bit for me was just waiting for the gas to disperse that had gotten trapped around my diaphram. I was sick from the anasthetic the night after my operation which did hurt but it was not that bad really. I think having the flu is a million times worse!!! Within a few days you will be back to yourself again, with me it took 6 weeks before i could go back to work and function properly because i had so much done but i really dont think thats the 'norm' all the best.

I'm having a laparoscopy done in February too. I'm just worried because alot of people in my family have endometriosis and my cousin ended up having to have a hysterectomy at 21. I was wondering if they encourage you to ttc after a laparoscopy? What was your outcome of ttc with a lap?

Thank you all for your response!! You all were very, very, helpful and comforting!!! I cant wait to get this over with!! I think the anticipation is the worse part.

Keepin my fingers crossed that I get a BFP soon!!!

They said I was going to have a hysterectomy at 16 because they couldnt stop me from bleeding but I stopped that from happening in the end. They sometimes encourage you because you are supposed to be most fertile again after but I had 6 months worth of treatment after my lap to try and prevent the endometriosis from coming back again. After the lap it took 3 years to conceive and after my first positive test I am nearly 17 weeks pregnant with a healthy little bundle.

Its not a nice journey to have to go on but once you get to your destination everything you go through is more than worth it - Im saying this and i havent even given birth yet!!!

:hugs: to all.

Hey! I just had mine done at 7pm on thu the 21st and i was sooooo scared about it. I had a cyst and deep endo removed and i was out for a movie and some food tonight ( i wrote from the hospital if you fancy reading it all in my journal (link below) - last couple of pages - starting at 67 or so i think) i quite enjoyed being knocked out and when i woke up i felt happy and asked if i can go out for a drink! LOL! I know they gave me some morphine... It lasted abou 20 min then i had mild discomfort (like mild period discomfort) feld dizzy for a minute, shoulder pain and that was it... It all depends on the individual if you ask me! Good luck and don't stress about it... I was shaking when they took me to the theatre and now i'm laughing about it!

Hi ladies! i already had my Lap back in Dec check out my Journal all about it , minute by minute!lol I was just as nervous as it was a first! But dont worry everything will be fine,...and its really not that bad. I was so nervous for nothiing. Anyway can you all tell me how long it takes for your incisions to heal and if they use,the disolving stiching. Thanks!
