how do i get on clomid??

hey girls, i have been trying with self insemination with my wlfe for quite a while and was thinking clomid would help how did u get on clomid?

did you go to docs and they just put you on it? or did you need fertility testing beforehand? what did you tell the doctor to get put on it?

clomid has to be prescribed by Gp/ Gynae or FS...they normally prescribe it to women who are not ovulating so im presuming testing would need to be done first. im not oving as i shud be and they still wont give it to me so it all depends on where ur and wat docs u see...sorry couldnt be more of a help...good luck xxx

They'll give it to you if they suspect you don't ovulate. It's bloody awful to be on so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't actually need it.

Where i live you only get it thru ur FS!!!Plus only if u need it!They will do your hormone levels on cycle day21 and look at results before prescribing
Ive been prescribed Clomid becus FS thinks it will really help us,but i am 40!
He did warn me about side effects...It can affect ur vision!He said if this happens i must come off it straight away! It can lead to Hyperactive ovary syndrome,which is also serious and very painful again i have to stop takin them the min this happens,and 1 other which i really didnt mind multiple babies(im a twin,they run in my family and my Hubbys) i wud welcome that side effect gladly lol
There are a couple others less serious frm what ive been told,but it can b very difficult for a lotta women to take. Leave you moody,tiresome,sleepless nites and nite sweats!! What we have to go thru to get preggers!!lol

5. Loss of appetite
6. NO ovulation (and, y'know, before I was on Clomid I at least ovulated *sometimes* - this made me stop entirely)

It always astonishes me how many people are on it who don't need to be, especially when it can go entirely the opposite way and is awful. People see it as this wonder drug but it's not that at all. It won't make you pregnant, it'll just help you ovulate, if it works. I understand it often helps those that don't ovulate but, as I've heard doctors say, "it won't make you ovulate more. It'll only help you ovulate if you don't."

In other words - if you ovulate fine on your own, Clomid is no use to you.

OMG! You had a tough time with it!
I kno everybody seems to think its a miracle drug!!
Can i ask how long you took it for?
My FS has gave me a prescription for it to take in Nov,im havin a SHG in 2weeks,so will start the Clomid the followin cycle,cd2-6,he has said he wants me to start with 100mg.

i was prescribed clomid after ttc for over a year & i was diagnosed with polycysts on my ovary.....all our tests showed i was ovulating fine still & my dh sperm was fine. we conceived on our 4th cycle of clomid & that particular mth was when we did artificial insem as i had a alap & dye & we were not able to do the deed properly as i was too sore but i didnt want to miss a mth of ttc! my fs was the only person that would prescribe the clomid. i had no side effects by the way! i made sure i took them at night as heard if u did get any its better to sleep them off x

Ive been prescribed Clomid even tho my bloods came bk great!!
Seeminly my FS thinks it will help us conceive?Im 40 so he thinks my eggs maybe be nearin their best before date!lol And the Clomid will help?
Im gettin a SHG in 2weeks and start my Clomid the followin month,so im really hopin for my Christmas BFP!!

as a min cd21 tests req to be done.Many gps wont prescribe, mine did but she has a special interest in fertility. I had no side effects but the drug requires monitoring.

thnx a lot ladies for all the advice i hd been monitoring my ovulation wi the poas things but had no result in them which is why il go to the docs jsut wondering how long it takes from going to the docs do u need refered to hospital like does it take months to be prescribed to u bear in mind im in the uk xx

Hiya!!
Well my Doc referred me and it was gonna b a 6month wait to see my FS never mind gettin Clomid!!
So we went private were seen within a week!
Prescribed Clomid in the same visit too!! Im gettin my SHG wk after nxt
Had i waited for NHS treatment it would have been 6month wait just to see him,and at least 6-7months for thr procedure im gettin nxt month
Im livin in Ireland not the 3rd world!! But we thought it was way too long!!

Im being prescribed clomid by my FS. I already ovulate on my own but like babycarey, i think the thinking behind it is to give us a better chance and produce more or better eggs cos of my age. We are starting it next cycle cos we are having to pay for it. Must admit it does worry me a bit that i might be paying for something that might be neither use nor ornament with me ovulating on my own.
