My Evie is 8 weeks old now and I am having troble getting her to sleep at night - a normal night goes like this

Sleep from 7ish to 11 - 11:30 ish
Awake from 11- 11:3- ish till 4am - constantly feeding falling asleep on the breast then crying when I put her down. Picking her up to comfort falls asleep then crys when I put her down then wants feeding agin
4am give her to the OH who walks around with her in her car seat to get her to sleep takes about an hour - a last resort as I dont really want her to sleep in her car seat
sleep till about 7:30 when wakes for another feed back down again by 8:30 and sleeps till 11:30 ish
Any suggestions to get her down after her 11:30 feed and stop the constant comfort feeding

Hi
Is she definitely feeding or just using you for comfort like a dummy? Poppy does this too at night when we first try and put her down. I thought she must be constantly hungry too, so tried to give her an expressed bottle feed and she wasn't interested. I offered her my breast and she was sucking away! She won't take a dummy though which would probably settle her. As she is a bit older (12 weeks) we can no leave her to cry a little bit as she then cries herself to sleep. Not nice to listen too but if we know she's clean and full there is no other reason that she's crying other than that she's tired.

So, not much help but I hope you manage to get some sleep soon :hugs:

Try a dummy?? I think you might be doing a little bit too much comforting  but then I think if my baby was like you describe I might try anything!!

I try to keep Renah awake from 10pm until she falls asleep at 1am, then she's good for a while usually unless something is bothering her

my cub is 3 wks I use that baby lotion by johnsons night time one

u might not want to do this but this works for me, get ready for bed and get her ready for bed put her in bed with u and feed her lying down make sure she gets a good 30min feed and i'm sure she will fall asleep on your boob, then remove your boob then pick her up and put her in her crib or what ever you use, if she wakes just start pating her and going shhhhhh that alway works for me but then jack sleep on his front so i pat his back but u could just pat her tummy should still work.............

Salim has a bath, I use Johnsons bedtime bath and wash. After his bath I massage him with the bedtime lotion then he gets a feed. The bedtime products really work with him. He sleeps soundly after doing all that. I try and keep him awake until 11 or 12 when I want to go to bed, that way he will sleep until 5 or 5.30. I must admit though I co-sleep through my own choice and I think this helps in him sleeping a good 5 to 6 hours straight. I also put him down to sleep as soon as he falls asleep in my arms, the longer you keep hold of them, the more they like and want to be held. Good luck

I have tried a dummy but it just falls out of her mouth. I think the feeding is wanting food to start with but as the night goes on comfort as she will feed for 5min or so then fall asleep the problem is then getting her into her moses basket as she wakes when I put her down

I am going to try giving her a bath tonight see if that will get her to sleep better !!

Have you tried different types of dummy? They do have to learn how to suck them as its different to sucking your breast. :)

No just tried the one and that was only once so maby I should try again with a different one

if all else fails i let lexi sleep on my chest for about an hour, then shes usually good to go down, maybe she senses the urgency you have to put her down and get to sleep? i knwo if i put lexi down to quickly she screeches

I bought and tried around 10 different types of dummy before I found one salim liked. It turned out he liked the 99p cheap big cherry teat from somerfield they also sell them in spar xx

One thing I would suggest is try keeping her awake a bit more through the day. Cut back her morning nap a bit, and try to keep her up later at night.

Give a bath at a set time every evening.

As for comfort sucking, if I had any idea how to stop it with my first two, I would have. I totally understand where you are coming from there. :hugs:

I give Jasmine her last feed at around 7pm then she goes to bed around 8:30pm, ever since she was little, I've put her in her crib and turned her winnie the pooh lullaby on, and she goes off on her own!

With the dummy, I just persevered with the same one. He soon learnt how to suck it and now takes it. Also try wiggling it while in the mouth - this starts off the sucking reflex. And, for some reason, gently tap the end with your fingernail once it's in the mouth. I'm not sure why this works - it just does!!

If you give gripe water try putting it on the dummy, it is sweeter, Jasmine likes the taste.

I think 7pm might be a little early to put your LO to bed... Can you keep her up at all?
