Hi guys, as the title says really - what are the signs that she is ready to go up a size? And does the next size up take some getting used to? I changed her teat today as I thought she was showing signs of struggling to get the milk and though she seems excited by the milk it does seem to leak out of her mouth and she coughs on it. Also she seemed to have bad stomach ache but this could be due to her taking 2 1/2 ozs in 5/10 mins - will she get used to the flow and slow down her sucking? I'm contemplating putting her back on the slower teats as she seemed really upset :cry:

Thanks :hugs:

I'm waitin' for some answers too hon! I bf but express milk to give to the daycare, so she gets a bottle obviously... she's nearly 6 months old and Ive still got her on the 'slowest' teat 'cause Im' afraid she'll choke and sputter on a faster one?!?! no clue... think I might just go for it when she turns 6 months and see what happens...
xxx

we moved alex up onto the next size teats because he just stopped having his bottles, he would have 2oz then refuse to have anymore

someone on here mentioned that it might be that he was getting fustrated because he wasnt getting his milk fast enough

we changed him to the medium flow and he was fab straight away

we tried him on the vari flow ones and i think they were too fast becuse he was coughing and the milk was running out of his mouth

I think when they start getting worn out mid bottle and dozing off - you know those bottles that take an hour to get down them!! Then it's time to change.

my mw told me to go up to stage 2 and im now thinking of going to stage 3 as alfie takes ages and stops and starts his milk

I posted a similar question although i already suspected i knew the answer. my lo was fussing around and getting really frustrated when eating and wasnt eating all of his milk and keep pulling away, we changed the teats and it was much better xx

yeah Matthew was getting annoyed with a feed and getting fed up before it was done used to take ages and he would get tuckered out sooking away for ages, he's now on stage 3 and manages well, think its recommended to change teats for hygiene and wear and tear 3 monthly I think x

I changed teats when my LO took up to 30 mins to suck and only took an ounce and fell asleep. I changed to no. 2 tommee tippee and she seems fine on it.
I think if they are taking ages to feed and appear to be tiring and not taking enough volume then change. They will choke at first as they need to get used to controlling the flow but they get there in the end.

A lot of the bottles say teat 1 for 0-3 months, then teat 2 from 3 months onwards.
