hey was just wondering all diabetics out there what your blood sugars were throughout pregnancy im in uk so can you tell me the uk version of blood sugars cause I dont understand the us way, just wanted to see how high your bloods went in your pregnancy and how long they lasted for???? did you all go on to have healthy babys ? x

My blood sugars ranged from 7 to 9.8 (1 hour after food) I wasn't on medication for it, just diet controlled.
My daughter has had several ECHO's on her heart (for reasons NOT relating to gestational diabetes), and they all showed that her heart muscle was thicker than it should've been and that was purely due to some 'uncontrolled' sugar levels.
She had to have her sugar levels tested after birth and they were all fine
Her heart muscle is normal now though

:flow:

My sugars ranged from very low (in the 1s) to very high (some 16s and above) but my hba1cs were around 7 which means my blood sugar averaged about 7. My baby is totally healthy (well both of them as I have two children and am a type 1 diabetic) but both children did have very low sugars after birth and needed some treatment for that. They both weighed 8.5lbs at birth which is a little big but no bigger than some non diabetics get.

Well mine were more or less like tanikit's. And I am ALWAYS high after breakfast around 13-14. But my hba1c is ranging from 4.7 to 5.7 (the 4.7 was from a very hypo instense period). Up to now baby is fine. In 8 days I can tell you for sure... And I am type 1 diabetic so my levels are actually considered good.

And to get the uk version of the US values just divide by 18 (the molar mass of glucose).

Hi, im type 1 and the 1st few weeks my sugars were quite high anything from 10 - 14 and i had more than 4 injections a day to keep them down, my son was born 5 weeks early due to preclampsia (nothing to do with diabetes) and he weighed 5lb 11oz xx

thanks ladies :D this is helpful I got my hba1c and it was 5.2 there really chuffed with that although somtimes I have the odd blood sugar at 12 or 13 had quite alot of lows aswell and they tell me to go by the reading 2 hours after food not 1 hour mines normally goes to like 11- 13 an hour after food then comes back down again most of the time at the 2 hour mark lol its good to know Diabetics have healthy babys I always freak out when i have a high blood sugar!

Bump, this is an old thread xx
Sorry for bringing it up again, having a rough few days, got the norovirus bug and my levels have been at 13mmol all morning, currently 5.2mmol now so expecting a drop.
I'm type 1 and my hba1c before pregnancy was 5.9% (october) i really am due another but i've not had chance to get up the hospital except from my diabetic/consultant appointments, i wish they would do it there and then when they always take my blood anyway!

I had some 16's in december before i found out i was pregnant, and had some 12's in January. My first two pregnancies were plain sailing, i hardly ever went above 7! So this is all newish to me having high numbers :(

x

The MFM told me anything over 200 (11.1 UK) could be harmful to the babies. The tighter the control the better, but definitely needs to be below that.

I was always told that while having normal range is best, as long as your sugars arn't consistently high things should be fine. Even those of us with amazing averages have the odd high sugar. That is normal and expected. I was always told that those at greatest risk are pregnancies that start with a high average and stay there or get worse. Especially first trimester when organs are being formed. Last trimester you have the risk of a higher weight baby and seizures at birth if they are used to consistently high levels.
080509 you seem to be doing great overall. Amazing control at beginning of pregnancy. And being sick makes it so hard but even then you're coming down from highs, not just staying there. Hopefully your virus will go soon and things will get back to normal.

Thanks hun, the virus seems to be on its way out for me now, so glad, just want my little one to get better now, he's got an ear infection :( sugars have been the best they have ever been in the past 24hours, all below 7, i think my problem with my fasting being at 8mmol was i was having a drop through the night, i reduced it last night and i woke up on a 6.8, i know its still out of range for pregnancy but at least thats come down abit.

I would really like a pump but i doubt i will be elegible being in the UK, they seem pretty hard to get in my area due to funding! x

I'm glad your getting back to normal. But dealing with a wee one with an ear infection isn't fun. Poor thing.
I'm on my third cold in a row now. In my entire life I have never got back to back colds and now I have 3. Hubby and the 20 month old too. My 13 year old must be made of steel because he hasn't got sick once.
My sugars are still pretty god but the odd higher then normal slips in. Mostly I think because I had such a bad trend of bad lows that my doctor demanded I lower my insulin by a lot. Now my body is deciding it needs more again. The see saw continues.
