I made up 5 oz last night and put it in the fridge, expecting her to wake up for her night feed around 1am. She slept right through until 6am so I breastfed as usual. So it's still in the fridge, can I use it or does it need throwing away?

You can store premade, untouched formula in the main fridge body for upto 24 hours, but the more time under this the better. xxx

I always followed the 24 hour rule too but tried to use it as soon as possible after making x

Health Visitors now say 'Don't store milk in the fridge.. Make it fresh'.. But what do they know? I always stored it up to 24 hours :D x

My midwife said 24 hours. I only make 4 at a time so generally get through them quite quickly.

I have tried so many different ways of making formula in a bid to have less distress from the time LO wakes up to the time it takes me to boil a kettle, count up scoops, mix it up, then cool it down again. Even if I'm speedy he can go from half asleep to absolute floods of real tears in the time it takes so I've settled on half filling bottles with cooled kettle water in the fridge then only topping up with newly boiled water (still have to wait for kettle to boil though!) but doesn't take as long to cool.

I read on the box you must never put it in the fridge but then everyone of the older generation said they used to make them all at once so I did it (for a few days) until I caught a whiff of the milk once and it smelt horrendous, it smelt like when our milk has gone sour, really nasty which got me wondering if they've changed the recipe or something since we were little and there really is a reason not to make it up early. I was reading yesterday that bacteria has time to grow if you make it up and then refrigerate it (although I figured fridges stopped that?!) Anyway if you can think of a better way let me know because my way is still not quick enough lol.

What formula are you using Mrs_Grissom? I have found that milk from a feed that is freshly made compared to one that is stored in the fridge smells pretty much identical.... We use Cow and Gate. xxx
