Well I can't believe I didn't realise I had mastitis. But my dd1 nursed so much (she was a permanent cluster feeder) I never had any problems with her.

I have a chesty cough that won't go away so on Sunday the midwife suggested I go to my gp. On Wednesday I finally go to the docs because I feel really crappy and when I'm there i find out I've got a fever and my light bulb moment happen's. Wait my booby hurts too I say. I then discover it's huge, red and painful. What a dimwit I am to not realise. I've just been so busy.
Then I get really sick Wednesday, like my brain finally catches up with my body and I'm shivering in 32 degrees heat.

Anyhoos, I've done three days of antibiotic's. My fever has gone. Boob is still sore and red but not as sore as it was.

When did your mastitis go away?

Ps thanks for reading my blow by blow account. I just needed to share tmi.

I would say I started to feel human again within about 3 days. I was feverish and having chills and delirious and couldn't get out of bed. I don't even remember much of it, I was that out of it (and had it twice in 4 weeks, different boob, horrible!). Definitely boob was maybe still a bit sore and I still felt tired and off for awhile longer, but I wasn't having chills or high fever after maybe that 48-72 hours. Having you tried massage in the bath under hot water? That really helped the blockages move along and helped to clear out some of the inflammation.

My experience was similar to MindUtopia's. A few days for fever and delirium to pass, and a couple more for inflammation.

It was awful... Sorry to hear you're going through it! Feel better soon!

I always felt better within 24 hours (aside from a slightly sore boob). I was told if the fever and general sick feeling doesn't go within 48 hours to return and try a different type of antibiotic, but I think it's fairly normal for the soreness to linger a few days.

Thanks ladies. Your replies really helped. I was feeling that I wasn't getting better quickly enough. Guess I just needed to be patient.

I started feeling better within 24 hours and then fully better in about 3 days.

Hope you're recovered soon :hugs:
