Hi,

I hope someone can help - when i feed my 3 week old a bottle of 4oz SMA milk he takes about 40 mins to drink it - and then it takes me about 20 mins to burp him....it's killing me at nights and he gets up every 3 hours (my first baby let me sleep for 5-6 hours at nights from the start!) so im not used to every 3 hours at nights! i thought this one would be the same as the 1st one!

im using tommee tippee closer to nature bottles and im using the number 1 teat...when can i switch to number 2! And should he be taking this long for a feed?

U can try vary flow teats or give size 2 a try. We were using size 2 at 4 wks for TT bottles. When we changed to Dr. Browns bottles at 2.5 mnths we went for size 3.

Carmen can take up to an hour to finish her bottle she is just not that hungry baby tho.

It's definitely worth trying a faster teat, and also make sure the valve isn't stuck too.

I was told that if LO isn't finishing their bottle within 20-30 mins and/or is falling asleep on it regularly these are the main signs that you need to change.

Try burbing every 1/3 of the way through the feeding.

Deep air bubbles in the tummy, takes forever to get out, IF you can get them out.

If you burp more often, you'll prevent that.

Yes, agree - 20mins a bottle - burp halfway and at end - make sure airvent is clear and at top of teat

Mine is 20 minutes! I have the bottles with the air holes on the bottom of the bottle, burp half way, I burp him sitting up, he doesnt like it when hes up on my shoulder,

i had this problem with those bottles, touch wood since changing to Avent, havent had this problem xx

exactly what i thought lol, i now have 10 of each and bought the avent steriliser to match as my TT one broke!so all in all cost me an extra £75!

Ella is on 4oz now but 3oz in a Dr Browns bottle with a stage/level one teat took about 15-20 minutes to go down.
Now she is 4 weeks old she is on 4oz and that takes a good 30 minutes.
She would guzzle faster if she could but I try and slow her down otherwise she dribbles badly.

Freddie is 3 weeks old and taking 3-4oz from a CTN bottle with a variflow teat. It takes him about 25 mins, with a mid bottle burp!! x ( he was almost 4 weeks early though)

Thats great thanks for your replies - i stuck to the number 1 teets and it does seem now he is drinking quicker - he has 5oz now and he drinks that in half an hour...

My baby is 4wks on Friday and he can take anything from half hour to up to an hour to drink his 4oz.

I'm using Avent stage 1 teats and sometimes he guzzles his bottles (which he will then projectile vomit a bit of ) or he'll have a nice leisurely drink lol.

I did consider upping to stage 2 but most bottles he'll dribble a lot out of the side of his mouth plus he goes down from about 9pm til half 6 and has done since he was 2 wks old so don't think it's the teats just him bein a lazy so n so at times lol.
