My 2 week old is suddenly struggling to go down for naps, taking over an hour to settle. I wonder if I'm trying to put him down too early. He has had such short awake times, sometimes non existent between feeds, just waking for 5 mins or so. But maybe now he is ready to stay awake longer and that's why he won't nap. Although I did put him down when yawning and fussing so I don't know!

By the time they're yawning and fussing it's normally too late. Mine was pretty much just waking up to feed at that point. I wouldn't let him go more than an hour before starting to try for a nap.

At the moment he yawns about 5 mins after he wakes up! I try to put him down as soon as I can but have to hold him up due to some reflux for 20 mins and then he tends to do a poo so I have to change him. Maybe he is overtired by that point then. I thought undertired but maybe wrong.

My daughter is almost 3 weeks old but she's not awake for very long in between feeds, except early evening she takes a while to settle but I hear that's common for some reason. I also have to sit her up for a good 20 mins after feeds to avoid sick/hiccups/wind. she tends to fall asleep during feeding

My LO is 10 days old and he likes to stay awake a lot. I spend a lot of time trying to get him to go to sleep. It's like he fights sleeping. He will fall asleep nursing but if you try to put him down he a lot of times just wakes up. Sometimes I'll be holding him or have him in a swing and his eyes get drowsy but he fights to keep them open. Not sure why. He is up for a few hours at a time sometimes. I spend lots of time trying to get him to nap. Maybe all babies are different. It's not bad during he day but he stays up at night too. Last night he was up from like 11:30pm to 3:30am. Kept trying to put him down but he just kept opening his eyes. Not sure why.

At 2 weeks my kids were only awake long enough for nappy change and feed them back to sleep.

At 2 weeks, my daughter was pretty much awake to be changed and fed and then she'd fall asleep during the feed and that's how she'd stay until it was time to repeat. But I never "put her down" for naps. She napped in my arms or on my chest. Definitely if I'd tried to put her down, she would have fussed and not settled.

We had this a couple of weeks ago for about a week. The answer to us was to swaddle it was the only way she would sleep and stay asleep when put down.

We do swaddle already, but he still won't sleep. I'd be happy to have him sleep on me but he won't do that either. Yesterday he was awake from 4.30 pm until 7.45. Nothing worked, not holding him, feeding him, swaddling, being in the dark. He just wouldn't sleep! I'm dreading the same again today.

My teo week old is the same
She fights sleep alot leading her to be fussy amd over tired when she's put down. She cam be awake for 2-3 hours at a time which I know is way too long. She will be asleep on me but as soon as I put her down she starts rooting around amd will only settle with the bottle in her mouth. Dh wants to give her a dummy like our first has as she is comforted by sucking and is getting frustrated as she doesn't want the milk!
As soon as I put the bottle in her eyes close. Your not alone... She also is difficult to put down at night sometimes takes an hour and a half.by the time I get into bed She's awake for another feed lol

Amelie was barely awake at all at that age, as soon as she fed she fell asleep again.

She is 6 weeks old on Sunday and she still is barely awake for more than an hour at a time. She fell asleep this afternoon at 12.30, woke at 3.30, had a feed and fell back to sleep again and is still sleeping now.

My DS, however, was very alert and awake for most of the day except for two naps (morning and afternoon) at this age.

Varies from baby to baby
