Just wondering how long u zap babies bottle in the microwave?? I have never used to heat a bottle i just use a jug of hot water...she has 240ml milk and i dont want to get hot spots from zapping too long...tips would be great x

Thanks ;)

I zap my water (100ml) for 30 seconds from the fridge, 15 seconds from room temp (then add powder and shake). I wouldn't give it without shaking it up regardless though. All microwaves are different though. Try a few temps and see how it turns out.

Chloe likes her bottles really warm so i do the water for 40 seconds for a 6 oz bottle, 35 for a 5 oz bottle and 25 for a 4 oz. Then add the formula and give it a very good shake. Thats on a 850 watt microwave

xx

Thanks ours is a 900w, thats really helpful....ive started pre making her bottles as is so much easier during the day when DH is at college.

So its not recommended to heat premade bottles this way?? x

i wack mine in for 30 secs from fridge or 20 from room temp and shake vigerously.

no its not really reccomended but premakings not either but when done safely and responisbily its fine imo.

There is nothing wrong with doing it this way as long as you shake the bottle well! :)

Alfie don't like warm milk so I used to only do them for about 15 secs from the fridge.

800w microwave for 6oz of milk (cold from fridge) 1min with a good shake. X

Microwaving premade bottles cuts down on the nutritional value according to my Dr and the Enfamil company hotline.

Thanks ladies i have decided to just keep warming in a jug of boiling water...just to be safe :) x

I warm in boiling water just to be safe...it heats up pretty quick if i stand and shake it occasionally

Ours is a 900w microwave and for a 4oz bottle from fridge i do it for 30secs take it out shake it and put it back for 10secs then add the formula.

30 secs for 3 oz from the fridge, 15 secs for 3 oz at room temp (bt its summer and warm here!)
I heat the water, than add the powder then shake ... no hot spots and the zapping doesn't de-nature the proteins in the formula.

* Another study about breast milk/infant formula by Lee in 1989[11] found vitamin content becomes depleted by microwaving, and certain amino acids are converted into other substances that are biologically inactive. Some altered amino acids are poisons to the nervous system and kidneys.

About 22 sec for a 5oz and 30 sec for an 8oz bottle in our 1100 watt microwave.
I always test the water after to make sure it's not too hot. If it is, I dump a little and add cold water to cool it to a good temp. Then I add the powder.

The only reason I've ever heard you aren't supposed to heat bottles in the microwave is because of the hot spots. I've never used it (my baby likes room temperature only it seems) but I would imagine as long as you don't zap it for too long and you give it a good shake after, it should be fine. :)

I use 90mls preboiled cooled water then add 60mls freshboiled to make the right temp for my lo if FF. But, i zap 150ml EBM for 30secs (from the fridge with a 900w).

Oooh Ive never heard of anything other than to watch for hot spots when zapping :dohh:

I do mine for about 30sec then give a really good shake :flower:
