Im sneaking over from 3rd tri to get some bottle advise.

I have decided I do not want to breastfeed at all and just wondering how many bottle I should buy. ?

Also do you advise I get a few tubs of formula or is there a high chance baby wont like it ???

Also if you dont mind telling me what works for you as a routine. I have nno idea at all how often a kiddo feeds...when where why ! LOL

If im going out for the day what is the best thing to do?

Many many thanks

Hi. I started bottle feeding after 2 weeks. We have 6 x 9oz bottles and have had 6 teats of each stage. We bought 6 x 5oz bottles at first but IMO they're pointless, I would say just go straight to the 9oz ones.
Don't stockpile formula, just pick one and try it out.
When you go out, cartons of ready made are far easier to deal with than powder. Just pack an empty sterile bottle, a little pair of scissors and a carton.
Personally I would advise using cartons all the time for the first couple of weeks as they are sterile where as powder isn't. (espec if your baby is small/premature.)
FF newborns prob feed about every 2 hours, building up to 3 hours then by 3-4 months, 4 hours.
Night varies depending on how quickly your LO gets to distinguish night from day and his/her weight.

I orginally had 11 bottles...It meant if I didn't have time to stick some in the steriliser I always had a few to spare which was handy in the early days

I swapped and changed bottles a few times but now i've found one that he likes, I have 6 of them.

I bought 1 tin of formula which he didnt like so chucked it and bought another. I would only buy one tin or a couple of cartons and see how you get on with it.

I was in hospital for 5 days and in that time the midwifes told me he should feed every 4/5 hours when he fed twice in that time! I tried to get him into a routine but its only when he hit 3 months that it really started to work.

I was quite lucky that Josh only cried when he was hungry, seeing as he's my first I don't know any different!

10 was a good number for us. In the beginning Hannah generally went through 8-10 bottles in a 24 hour period so having that many meant I didn't have to sterilize all the time!

As for formula I'd get one tub, maybe two but I wouldn't buy to much as you don't want it to go to waste. Switching between formulas isn't really recommended as it can cause upset tummy's. We never had to switch with Hannah, she did well on the first one we tried her on

I bought 9 tommee tippee 9oz bottles and 6 Tommee tippee milk dispensers.

I just bought a carton of formula to start with it lasts around a week and a half maybe to start with depending how greedy your little one is!

I was terrified of making up the formulas/sterilizing etc before i had my baby, but it becomes a doddle!

For the first few weeks i bought ready made cartons, was much easier when your getting used to all the non existant sleep/nappy changes etc as well! If i could of afforded it would have used them all the time!

However when that luxury was over! i would sterilize maybe two or three bottles at a time, add 3oz (or whatever LO is having) of freshly boiled cooled water to the bottle and then add the milk to the dispensers and fasten the whole thing up with teat and lid etc and it would be ready for when baby needs feeding.

Hi, i have 5 avent bottles just now (just changed from NUK)

My baby gets half breastmilk and half formula. The formula we use is SMA Gold as thats what he got in hospital and we originally used NUK teats as he got them in hospital. When we came out he would only take milk from NUK teats (think it was easier for him)

When he was born I was told to wake him every 3 hours to feed (if I didnt he would never feed!). Then at 4 weeks old I was told to let him sleep as long as he wanted at night and not to let him go more than 4 hours during the day.
He would wake up every 3 hours on the dot demanding fed and would try to get milk from everything including peoples arms and his car seat! Now at 9 weeks he wants fed every 3 to 4 hours and sleeps for 5 hours at night without a feed.

When I am going out I take cartons of milk (cost 50p for the sma) and take a sterilised bottle and a flask to heat the milk (he is very fussy about the temperature of his milk)

hope this helps

Originally we used a one bottle steriliser for the microwave and had 3 bottles (i think) and the formula we got was what they stocked in the corner shop, which is as good a reason as any to choose a make incase you run out.

I recently bought a large steriliser as I bought more bottles but we dont use it, still just use the one bottle microwave steriliser. as and when she wants a bottle.

Have only now started taking a bottle out - used to get back home in time for next feed - and I steam a bottle and put it in a tommee tippee bottle bag and buy a carton when out. It isnt technically sterile but it's the best you can hope for I think.

Recently bought size 2 teats - wish I had just bought 2 and saved oem cash as the size 1 vari flow are better (imo).
HTH xx

i formula fed oin demand , and used 8 bottles a day to begin with ( roughly every 3 hours) and as he got into a routine and began to drop move the feeds around a bit as he began to drop one here and there, went down to 7 then 6 etc... but i would say 8 bottles is the maximum you will probably need for a 24 hour period :)
i had only 2 tins of formula ready at home but had no trouble with it so i could have brought more ( best not buy too many just incase , although im sure the store will let you swap them for another if you needs to)

We have 9 bottles. Our LO still eats about 8 times in 24 hours, so that way I only have to sterilize bottles once a day. :)

As for the formula, I would just get 1 tin of it, and see how it works! Good luck!
