As of right now, I have
No Newborn size diapers (< 10lbs)
170 Size 1 (8-14 lbs)
212 Size 2 (12-18 lbs)

And of those I only have a receipt for 100 Size 1.

Having no idea how often diapers get changed, my questions are...
Should I just keep all my diapers because I'll need them?

Do I need NB size diapers or can i just stick my kid straight into size 1s (weight pending of course)?

AHHHHH

With my son he was 8 lbs 9 oz. So a good sized baby. We went through 1 box of newborn. I have No idea how many ones. At least two jumbo boxes. 2s didn't last long before 3 was a better fit.

It wouldnt hurt to have newborn sizes. Anything you don't use can be returned( unopened box of course) or donated to those who need them. I see people selling diapers cheap on Facebook a lot. Some parents change their kid every time they pee which is too much in my opinion, these days they hold a lot of liquid. It's really a matter of how much your baby pees and poops and how often you change them. You'll learn what sizes will fit and how many you go through once you and your baby fall into a schedule

I never had NB diapers. Both my babies were a good sized babies and from the start I put them in 1s diapers. And I don't know how many of them I used. In the first two months I used even 15 diapers a day...because they were pooping all the time :dohh: :winkwink:

Thanks ladies! Not sure how bubs is measuring. I might just use a gift card I got to get a small 88 or 128 count of NB diapers from target

I change Sophie's nappy at every feed so every 2-2.5 hours plus if we notice she's dirty (she has a habit of poohing right after we've changed her haha)

Her nappies are newborn size. She was 8lbs 6oz and they're a good fit so it wouldn't hurt if you have the gift card there. Babies need changed a LOT!

I would get the newborn size ones, at least a pack and you can always send someone out that day to get more. How many you use depends entirely on baby's size at birth and how quickly they grow. My daughter was 6lbs 9oz and was in newborn sized ones for probably 2-3 months. So it's impossible to know. Also, I would personally recommend not stocking up. Not all of them fit all babies the same and you may find you hate the ones you got. We got Pampers to start and they were awful. They have this horrendous chemical odor and I couldn't stand my daughter smelling like that all the time. We switched to another brand. I've tried others through the years and some just leak because they don't fit her body as well. It's a bit of trial and error. Better to set the money aside and then buy the ones that you know work well when you need them.

Your hospital might provide you with newborn size diapers, our always did and then sent us home with about 2 packs .. worth calling and askeing before buying them!!

Mind I agree. I've heard from ladies on here about certain brands working better so it was honestly not my intention to have 300+ diapers lol. I have a bunch of samples from different brands from registries in size 1. But these diapers were all gifts with no gift receipt or even hint at where they were purchased =\. Worst case scenario, if pampers doesn't work out then I'll sell them. It's funny because when I worked st my last school they all swore by huggies but this one swears by panpers. Brand loyalty is real even with diapers lol. I do wish they would have gone huggies just because I am a Costco member and they stock huggies. Meh oh well I can always switch

Pink that's a great call. I doubt mine does but I have an appointment today so I'll ask her :)

And yeah I'm still sitting on a gift card and some duplicate gift returns to target, a gift card and some duplicate gift returns to brus, and my registry earned me $300+ after he's born. I just want to be strategic about what I spend on since I just paid off my credit card this month

My daughter was 7lbs4oz at birth and she was in newborn for 6-8 weeks if I recall. They lose some of their birth weight the first few days, so I found those fit the best, she would have been swimming in size 1. I would buy at least a pack of newborn to bring to the hospital (I've tried every brand and I prefer Pampers Swaddlers for infants), they also have the line that turns blue so you know if it's wet or not. I think the first few weeks at least you are changing diapers about 10 times a day and then it goes down from there.

I am one that prefers huggies snugglers newborn! After that I'm good with Wal-Mart parents choice brand :haha:, I don't see the point in paying more for something that does the same thing (gets peed/pooped in and gets thrown away) although some kids do get rashes in certain diapers so there's that, but mine, even my sensitive dd2 who breaks out/has eczema from EVERYTHING isn't sensitive to diapers.:)

I bought newborns when I was pregnant with my first (born 7lb13oz), and he fit into them for a few weeks, but I didn't bother buying them for any of my other babies. Size 1 tend to be cheaper, and I don't mind if they swallow my baby up a bit. I can always go out for some newborn size if I really need it, but even my smallest baby did just fine in Size 1s. One of my babies didn't fit into Newborns at birth - he was 9lb2oz. The rest of my babies wore newborns in the hospital, and then we used up the rest of what they gave us when we got home and switched to size 1. Anyway, I change my babies 12 times per day as newborns, then 8-10 times per day after that. When I buy diapers from Target or Babies R Us, they'll let me exchange for a different size if my baby moves out of a size and I've got an open package. If it's open, I'll save it in case I get pregnant again (hasn't failed me yet... lol), or I'll donate it to someone else who's pregnant or has a baby who's smaller than mine. (I see some people selling off their open diapers on Facebook "online yard sales.")

Let me just add that my 15m old (born weighing 9lb2oz) currently wears diaper size 4 (my other babies were in size 3 for a long, long time, but this baby has been in size 4 for several months now), and his diaper still gets changed 8-10 times per day.

I would say it depends on the baby. My sisters told me not to bother with newborn sized diapers because they have 7 kids between the two of them and all of their babies were too big for newborn diapers. So I got a few packs of size 1 diapers, but did have a friend gift us a package of newborn size. I was glad she did because my DD was 7 lbs 4 oz and size 1 were gigantic on her! She was in newborn diapers for the first 6 weeks until we switched to cloth. We don't use enough disposable to remember how much of each size we used, but now at 18 months she fits into size 3 and probably will for a while yet. Don't stock up too much because it's impossible to say how long your baby will be in any one size.

Our hospital didn't supply packages of diapers, but they did supply diapers while you were in hospital so we grabbed 5 or 6 of those when we were discharged. You could always do the same and then just stop on the way home to pick up a package of newborn sized if you need them.
