I am wondering how many meals/feeds in total people are giving their little ones?

Are you giving milk as one feed/meal, then later some food, then milk next etc. kind of alternating, totalling, say 5-6 feeds/meals? Or do you give your milk and food in one sitting, so less feed/meals in total etc.? Should milk always be given before food?

I was reading the AK weaning book and at some parts she has 6 meals/feeds a day, which would seem to have something going in the babies' mouths every two hours or less! This seems like a lot so am keen to hear what everyone has been doing. I've been offering the food about 30 minutes after the milk thus far, just up to three small (food) meals a day this week.

Thanks :)

Now Ruby is eating rater than playing (BLW) we usually do the following:

7.30am - 7oz milk
8.30am - breakfast (hardly eats any)
11.45am - lunch
2pm - 6oz milk
5pm - Dinner
7pm or thereabouts - 7oz milk.

This seems to be working fine aside from the breakfast refusal, but I've concluded she just doesn't want to eat at that time, it makes no difference what I offer, when I offer it, or whether before milk or after.

I guess eventually the 2pm bottle will go and be replaced by a snack.

Our routine is roughly as follows:

6.30am (or before if he wakes earlier)- 5oz milk
7.30am- Breakfast
12pm-lunch
1pm- 5oz milk
5pm-tea
7pm 5oz milk

I was also offering a bottle at 4pm until recently as he just wasn't drinking it. His milk intake is quite low but he has never been a big milk drinker and he sometimes has a feed in the night too.

Hiya, i had this question in my head for a while so i asked...GP said Poppy should be having around 4/5 feeds and 3 meals per day but then hv said if she is having 3 meals she should have no more than 3 feeds in a day! Its very confusing but in the end i just let Poppy decide! This is where we are atm:

9-10am - 7 oz Formula and porridge
12-1pm - Lunch (main meal and small pudding, eg home made rice pudding)
4-5pm - Dinner (as above)
6.30pm - 7 oz Formula (after bath, just before bed)
10.30-11pm - 7 oz Formula (dream feed)

I know this is a bit mixed up compared to others but we had to wean Poppy quite early due to her tummy problems (was born with Pyloric Stenosis and damaged reflux valve). She is a funny little sleeper too, never wakes befor 9 am but sometimes sleeps as late as 11am! If we don't give her her dream feed at 11pm she wakes at 3am without fail! xx

I was offereing the following:
07:30 BM
09:00 breakfast (always refused though)
11:00 BM
12:00/13:00 lunch (sometimes refused)
15:00 (ish) BM
17:30/18:00 dinner (often refused)
19:00 bedtime BM

with 2/3 BM feeds through the night...

Lindsey's day goes roughly like this:

7:00am - bf
8.30am - breakfast; pear/apple/peach mixed with cereal (oatmeal, millet, etc)
(10.00am SOMETIMES bf, but she's dropped this most days)
11.45am - lunch; main meal, mostly mixed veg and/or pasta with chicken with yogourt for dessert
2.00pm - bf or formula if she's at daycare
4.00pm - snack; fruit and/or bread/melba toast or yogourt (if she didn't have one for lunch)
6.30-7pm - dinner; good night cereal and bits of whatever we are having if appropriate
8.30pm - last bf and bed

Seems to be working ok for us! :D
xxx

Thnaks Ladies! Looks like I can expect to drop some milk feeds soon then. Otherwise, think we're on the right track.

Glad someone asked this as I'd been wondering too!
Rough day for us at the moment is

6.30am short BF in bed then sleep for another hour
8.30 ish BF
12.30 BF then food finished by a short BF on other side (break between BF and food as I get it ready)
4.30 long BF
6/6.30 bath then long Bf for bed.

He tends to have 1-2 little feeds in the night too, but if I try to offer more BF in the day he doesn't have a full feed and starts snacking the rest of the day!

Going to try breakfast in a couple days I think.....

7am 5oz
7.30-8am baby cereal
11-12pm 5oz
12.30pm yougart
3pm 5oz milk (depends how hungry she is!)
5pm dinner and pudding half a jar of each (only way to explain as its homemade food!!)
6.30pm 5oz

Reassuring to see others just giving 4-5oz bottles too. I keep mixing up 7-8oz but it's not being drunk. Guess food takes up a lot of room in those little tums!

The twins day is like this:

6am 5oz bottle (cows milk) << at home

Then at nursery they have:
7.45am weetabix
10-10.30am snack -- usually banana and crackers sometimes added other fruits too
11.30-12pm lunch -- a meal and a pudding

Then they come home from nursery and I take over

They have:
1pm a 5oz bottle cows milk
3pm snack -- usually a sandwich and fruit with it or a biscuit and a bottle of tea lol
6pm dinner -- a meal and another pudding.

My two eat and eat and eat. they are both on target for their age which should be 9 and a half months! They were born 10 weeks early so I dont know if they eat lots to do the catching up x

my lo at the min 22weeks old
08:00 - 2-4oz milk and baby cereal (Not much finger fed, doesn't take off spoon)
11:00 - 3-5oz milk
14:00 - 4-6oz milk
17:00 - 4-6oz milk
20:00 - 3-5oz milk

I was offereing the following:
07:30 BM
09:00 breakfast (always refused though)
11:00 BM
12:00/13:00 lunch (sometimes refused)
15:00 (ish) BM
17:30/18:00 dinner (often refused)
19:00 bedtime BM

with 2/3 BM feeds through the night...

This is a bit like us but he has breast milk straight after his lack of eating food as well. So he has breastmilk when he wakes, breakfast, breastmilk, then a small breastfeed, lunch, breastfeed, dinner, breastfeed to bed, then maybe 1 in the night. So he stocks up in the day and only has 1 if any through the night.

I was worrying that M wasn't having enough but he sounds to be having loads when I write it down!

6.30am 6oz formula
7.30 Breakfast baby porridge or cereal
9.30 6oz formula
11.30 Lunch - puree of mixed veg or chicken/fish and veg, fruit puree
2.30 6oz formula
4.00 Dinner - puree of mixed veg or chicken/fish and veg, fromage frais or jelly
6.00 6oz formula
3 or 4 am 6oz formula (sometimes misses this feed)

I give him chicken/fish only once a day so if he has it at lunch he just has veg at dinner or vice versa

we are 2 weeks in to spoon feeding and he is having (all home cooked)
6am 4-5oz ff
9:30am porridge with 1oz ff and about 3oz after let him decide how much milk he wants
1:30pm 2 ice cubs of food then 4-5oz ff some times less some times more
4:45pm 2 ice cubes of food then 4-5oz ff
9:45 7oz ff

i have been told if baby is eating 3 meals aday they need 15-20oz of milk aday
