Hi ladies,
I've seen so many saddening stories on here of chemical pregnancies, miscarriages, mmc, ectopics etc and I'm starting to panic and wonder how many pregnancies end healthily around full term and how many end prematurely due to loss etc? Any stats you can provide or websites that you can direct me to for info would be really useful.
Thanks ladies :flower:

They think that around half of all pregnancies end in loss, however the vast majority of these happy before a woman has missed her period. Miscarriage Chances

Thank you hun, this is exactly what i've been looking for! Xx

There are lots of other factors too... age for example!

I found it easier to stay off the forums in the earlier days. I know they can be good for support, but they can also cause terror. Sometimes i see a post and get absolutely frantic convincing myself I've miscarried. In reality, miscarriage rates are pretty low, still birth chances are 1% it just seems like it happens more often on these forums because a lot of us wind up here after we've already suffered a loss or infertility. Congrats hun ♡♡

Thanks hun, I needed to hear this. I was thinking that this forum was making me super paranoid. I hear so many bad things all the time, it all seems so frequent. I think I'll deffo need to stay off this forum for a bit. My mind is all over the place! xxx

I had an appointment with an obstetrician specialist doctor, and he told me the following: 40% of all pregnancies end in mc; if your period misses, your chances of having a mc drop to 20%; after hearing the hb your chances of mc drop to 5%-7% (It depends on when you hear the hb, he told me that one after showing me the hb of my baby at 7 weeks). Yesterday I was able to hear the hb with the doppler, and researched the odds of mc after hearing hb at 9 weeks, and found a consistent number - less than 2% :)

Remember that forums like this attract people with losses and/or fertility problems, so the number of women who miscarry is disproportionately high. It can make you feel like every pregnancy ends badly, but that is simply not the case.

If you miss your period and get a positive pregnancy test, then the odds of having a healthy baby are extremely high, way higher than the boards would suggest.

Once you hear a heartbeat then the risk is even lower (since that then excludes a certain type of miscarriage, where the baby never develops past implantation, as well as pregnancies where the baby only gets to a certain point of development). The risk of having a miscarriage without realising (a 'missed miscarriage') is actually very low - around 1-2% - despite the number of women on these boards who have experienced one.

If you get that positive test after your period is due (since the vast majority of pregnancies are lost before the day your period is due) then you are much more likely than not to end up having a baby.

Thank you ladies! I've been worrying so much but I guess I just need to chill. xx

I've heard that more people have healthy pregnancies than loss. There are so many factors that go into it, like age and your health, if you smoke or drink, ect. I was always worried I'd be one of the few who would have issues getting pregnant and staying pregnant but so far everything is wonderful :) My DH kept telling me "Listen there have been crack heads who have full term babies. So you'll be fine." I guess that kind of helped, We even heard a story at my OB about a lady who purposely smoked because her last child was 10lbs and she wanted a smaller baby. She went until full term (not sure how the child was though)
