I started spotting a week ago and found out that I miscarried last weekend (fetus was only 5.5 wks and I found out at 10.5 wks).

I have had absolutely no pain, just feeling very tired, and have had some bleeding but I think the heaviest of it has passed. I have had blood clots the size of my thumb come out, and that's the biggest I saw. I never filled my pads like I have read on line, some women changing their pads every 10 min to half hour. Should I be worried b/c I am not bleeding enough for a m/c?

I really don't want to have a D&C...

Thanks for any advice!!

Firstly, I am so sorry to hear this. Miscarriage is so cruel.

Every miscarriage is different. You can bleed for anything up to 2 weeks without your GP being too concerned. I would take each day as it comes. I believe the earlier the miscarriage, the less the bleeding should be.

Look after yourself - take it easy.

My heart goes out to you. I mc'd @6wks, it was a nutral spontaneous mc but I wasn't in a great deal of pain, just strong period-type cramps on and off for a day or two.

I didn't have huge amounts of bleeding either - three days similar to a very heavy period having to changing regular pads every couple of hours then three days of fairly light bleeding followed by two days of spotting so it was physically over pretty quickly for me -but everyone is different.

As long as some of your bleeding is bright red rather than just brownyou may be asked just to wait it out for a week or more but you should definately have a scan at some point to check that there are no Retained Products of Conception (RPCs) which would reqire a D&C or similar procedure (commonly caled ERPC - evacuation of RPCs).

Try to rest as much as possible to combat the fatigue, although I found I had to keep busy!

 I'm around if you want to chat more

hi SienMA, thanks for your reply. I've read that most people at least have some cramping and quite a bit of bleeding, so I am a bit concerned that I am going to need D&C to get rid of the RPC and the fact that I am not feeling any cramps at all...I am hoping not though b/c I am a believer of natural processes as much as possible. I will be getting a scan end of next wk to just make sure that everything has been cleared.

Thanks again for your support!

I had the same concerns - but fingers crossed for your scan. One positive that I could take from the whole experience was that my scan showed that my body was doing what it was supposed to and that they could check for other abnormalities at the same time.
Luckily there were none but even if there had been they would have been spotted and I could set my mind to sorting myself out for next time.

Let us know how you get on. xx:hugs:

One of my friend reccommended raspberry leaf tea to me following my mc. It has been proven to be a tonic for the uterus, improving blood flow etc. (it is normally used from 32 weeks pregnancy onwards to help shorten labour) so if you wanted something natural to try it can't hurt (it is only advised against in early pregnancy). I am taking it at the moment to try to prepare my body to try again in my next cycle - I'll stop aking it when AF shows up!

I will definitely go to the store and get this tea ASAP! thanks for everything!

hi there, thanks for the message. When did you find out you m/c (how old was the fetus)? my friend said that if it's still early it's possible that you don't get a lot of blood. And how's your period normally like? W/ cramps and lots of bleeding? B/c mine is usually not only light, it's also painless. So my friend who had a m/c herself said that it's likely that since when I have my regular period I don't have cramps/lots of bleeding, it's possible that this is how I have a m/c as well. She had cramps and heavy periods so she had the same when she miscarried.

I guess like me, your U/S next week will be able to tell you if you need the D&C, I am not really into having it, just b/c any surgery can always have the possibility of complicating things for our body, but we must face what the necessary evil I guess...I hope you won't need a D&C, so all the best to you (and me!!)!!

:hugs:

I misscarried at 10 weeks in April 08 and fetus measured at 8 weeks. My bleeding was never heavy like they say online either. For the first few days, I would change my pad like a really heavy period. (I took the medication to induce labor). The clots kept coming every now and then for the entire week. The miscarriage probably lasted a week or 2. But eventually tapered off to where I was changing pads like a normal/light period. Then another few weeks, I changed to only panty liners. The whole bleeding did not stop until more than 4-5 weeks. Meanwhile, I had my HCG levels tested every week to make sure the hormones were declining normally. That was my assurance to know the miscarriage did not have any complications.
