Hello, i am currently pregnant and just looking for a bit of information.

I was just looking at what sort of maternity pay people have been given, is it normal to only receive the basic amount? I dont want to ask my work as i dont want them to know until around December.

Im just trying to figure out what sort of money we will have and how much we will have to save to subsidise my lower wage.

Also im aware we will get child benefits about £20per week is this right?

I dont think there will be anything else we are entitled too as our joint salary is £33,000

Thanks for the help!

some employers give only SMP which is 90% of your usual wage for 6 weeks, then £135.45 per week up to week 39 (provided you earn enough and have worked enough to qualify)

your contract will tell you if you are entitled to an enhanced package

I work for the NHS and I get 8 weeks at full pay, then 16 weeks at half pay + SMP, then 13 weeks SMP only, then nothing.

Really? My work has just started doing Company maternity pay and said that they are not allowed to give SMP and CMP at same time..........sneaky beggars!

If you get smp only you will receive 90% of your weekly salary or around £133 a week whichever will be the lowest. Also the first 6 weeks you so get 90% of salary regardless.

In my last 3 jobs (universities and local govt) they do SMP on top of their own, SMP is a government thing so don't see why they couldn't when they claim it back?

With your income you would get tax credits IF you had childcare costs when you go back to work (if), you will probably qualify for tax credits while on maternity leave depending on what your income will reduce to with you not working, either way apply with tax credits to see what you get (as they discount the first £100 every week of SMP which is most of it) Speak to your HR they can't disclose anything, or see if they have their policies online.
