jack is 12 weeks today and i make him 5oz bottles and half the time he leaves 1 oz but sometimes drinks it "/ i told a girl thats got a 4mo and she thought that wasnt enough? xx
My LO only had 5oz up until he was around 6 months and then started drinking 6oz but he would never ever drink more than 6 until around 10 months he started having 8oz. Now he's 3 weeks over one and not long ago started taking 9oz.
I was always told to make them an oz more than they drink and if they want to drink the rest great if not..They don't need it.
I shouldn't worry about it if he wanted more he'd cry for it x
As long as your baby is gaining weight at a healthy rate then it doesn't really matter how much he is having compared to other babies as they all drink different amounts, he will take what he needs.
If he is not gaining weight then I would discuss with your HV or GP.
I agree with the others - as long as your baby is gaining weight and not dehydrated (wetting nappies/diapers), I wouldn't worry. How much LO is taking at each feed isn't a great barometer for how much he eats, either. Although he takes 4 ounces, he may be eating much more frequently than the baby that takes 6.
Like other ladies have said as long as his weight gain is good and he has plenty of wet and dirty nappies then he is getting enough. All babies are different and have different appetites. I know some babies who are drinking 8oz at 2 months old and some, like your son only taking 4oz at 2-3 months old. xxx
My LO is the same. He has 4 oz (sometimes less) every 3 hours although I always make 5oz bottles. He has 5 a day and sometimes one in the night so is nowhere near the amount it says he needs on the tin but he is gaining weight and sleeping very well at night so he must be having enough.
It is so easy to worry about things like this when you hear about other peoples babies but if your LO wanted more I am sure he/she would let you know xxx
My LO is coming up for.15 weeks and been solely on ff for the last 13 days. She takes 4 feeds per day...usually between 6-7oz per feed
She is sleeping 12 hours through the night so wanted tp make sure she has enough during waking hours.....she typically leaves only 1-2 oz of this (not per feed)
They say babies should be getting between 2-2.5oz per lb of body weight though i think if they are gaining weight and following percentile line all is ok x
At 12 weeks my daughter would have 4 oz 6 times per day, and then went on to 5oz 5 times per day - so took max of 24/25 oz in a full day - that was the most she would ever take right up to 6 months old.
If your LO is content and gaining weight then she is having enough.
My 4 months old take 4oz bottles still! She has one at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, 12am and then 5am so 6 bottles a day. She occasionally takes 6oz and I offer her 6oz but 9/10 she spits a 6oz back up. My LO puts on 1/2lb a week or she was - will be getting her weighed again on Wednesday after 7 weeks lol. Every baby is different. Some feed more often, some feed bigger bottles, some sleep through the night at 2 months, some not til they're 1 year old +. I've stopped comparing with what others do - cause mine doesn't. As long as LO is healthy and happy it doesn't matter as they will tell you if they're hungry.
Sounds good to me, my lo is nearly 12 weeks and is taking around 4 -5 oz every 3 hours. He sleeps 10 hours at night so must be getting enough in the day )
All babies are different, just like us adults! and some like little and often or more and longer. plus you cant make a baby drink when they dont want/need it.
my LO drinks 6oz.
