How much 'newborn' stuff have you got

Hello ladies,

Getting a little confused how much and of what size i should buy. So far I have 14 newborn vests (pressies) and 4 newborn sleepsuits. I have no day outfits for new born and I have a few bits and pieces that are 0-3 months. How much else should i buy in the newborn size or the 0-3 month size ?

I don't know the sex of mine so I've stopped myself buying loads so I can buy some pink or blue outfits but I've bought mostly newborn (two-three packs of sleepsuits and vests) and then I have about 3 sleepsuits in 0-3 but they look huge

Its so hard to know, at moment I have about 8 sleepsuits and vest and two outfits in newborn but my friend has just had a baby that was 8lb and who is still in newborn 4 weeks later, im confused lol! My son was 8lb and I had to go and buy some first size babygrows as newborn was a bit too big for him. Think I will stick with what ive got and send hubby out if anything is too small/big etc. x

We went to Asda and bought:

- one pack on newborn vests (5 pack).
- one pack of newborn babygrows (5 pack).

Will buy more newborn babygrows and vests if we need them once we have seen what size the baby is.

- Three packs of 0-3 vests (3x 5 pack).
- Three packs of 0-3 babygrows (3x 5 pack).

- Three packs of 3-6 vests (3x 5 pack).
- Three packs of 3-6 babygrows (3x 5 pack).

We haven't bought any outfits as will be using babygrows and vests for first few months rather than fussy outfits. Also we will buy 6 month+ stuff once we know whether we have a boy or a girl.

God, I have got SOOOOOOO much in terms of vests for newborn. They go upto 11lb so am just hoping that baby gets to wear each one at least once Luckily they don't cost too much here in the UK so it's no biggie if we don't use them all!!

By my reckoning, if you need a clean vest for baby, say, 3 times a day, then I have about a fortnights worth pmsl!

Because my baby has long legs, I've refrained from buying too much with feet in them; although I have a couple of sleepsuits, I'll sort that once baby is here.

I have a couple of T's and little joggers for a newborn but most of the outfits that I have bought are in the 0-3 size which apparently go upto 15lb.

Basically I took advice from my friend who's baby was born at 8lb10 and who was still in newborn until he was 8 weeks old. From there on and up to and beyond 16 weeks, he was in 0-3.

Our Anna is now 9 wks and I am only really starting to put her in things other than sleepsuits!!

You will have LO in sleepsuits with a vest under for the first while!!

Be careful with sizes - first size or newborn can mean 0-3 mnths in some shops!!

We got 10 vests and 10 sleepsuits in first size - up to 10lbs - Anna was 6 lbs 15 at birth so she grew out of these around 8 weeks.

She is in 0-3 sleepsuits now.

I am glad I didnt buy any outfits as I was given loads as gifts!! I would say outfits in first size ( up to 10 lbs) are a waste of money.

So, Lou - I would say get more sleepsuits and vests - you could go through 3 in one day! Pooh leaking and puke!! And dont get any newborn actual outfits.

What do they sleep in for the first few weeks / months ?

i have two swaddling blankets and 2 (0-3 months) nighty things, with elasticated bottoms. Is this about right ?

just started buying 3-6 mths stuff have bought all vests all sleepsuits i need, i probably have way too much but dot want to be worrying about doing the washing x

Iv only bought what im gonna need for the hospital... As i dont know what sex im having not buying clothes is easy Iv also been warned that i will be getting loads of prezzis, so i dont see the point in buying heaps and not using half of it :/ xxx

I agree with this too, waiting to find out the sex and seeing what / if people buy stuff ..... good plan. Think i am ok for the first few weeks now

Any ideas on what they sleep in thou ? I might ask on another thread too

Wow, well you certainly wont run out !!! I think I will certainly be doing more wash than you to start with. But at least you wont need to go back to the shop to buy more when it arrives !
