Hi All,

I went to my hospital app today for hypertension and they said that my urine test was fine, however since ive been home & looked at my notes it says there was a trace of protein?

I thought that any protein was a big pre e sign?
Does anyone know?

Thanks

I've been told (similar to you I've had samples return traces of protein) that it CAN just be as simple as you've peed and caught some vaginal discharge in the stream as it's washed over your ladybits and that will flag up in your sample. If it's anything more than a tiny bit they'll send it off to be fully tested at the lab to determine what the cause could be - and if it is just discharge in the crossfire or whatever.

Can be pre-eclampsia (but that has other symptoms as well), can be a water infection... I had a sample sent off a couple of days ago after it came up as positive in the dip test - no one's rang me to say there was anything out of the ordinary yet (and I was speaking to the midwife this morning about something else anyway)... so I wouldn't worry.

It is only one of several possible factors in pre-e the main one is high BP if she thought it was an indicator they would have told you so, +++protein etc is more linked to pre-e as is severe swelling and high eurate levels in your liver and kidney functioning results. I wouldn't worry too much as Dizz says a trace may simple indicate contaminated sample.

Do NOT google lol lots of junk out there to worry yourself silly xx

Thanks ladies, I am the google queen!

I had pre e with last preg so I just thought that maybe they would have shown more concern with the trace of protein...I guess I will just start to worry when they do!

I had traces for ages with my daughter, but was never sent for an eval as my BP was still "normal". I did end up losing her, so may have had pre-e for awhile with her. The MFM this time has had me do a 24 hour urine a few weeks ago to get a baseline. I'm sure I'll be repeating it later on (and be sure to get two containers from them).

Hey! I had pre e with dd1 which was diagnosed at 24 weeks. This pregnancy I'm 21 weeks today and diagnosed with it again. For the 24 urine test anything above 300 is considered to be pre e. I did a baseline around 3 months and it was 286 but now it's 359 :(
I kept pushing this concern so they tested me again. I haven't had major symptoms of it either so if you have to, bug them about until they listen. That's what I had to do unfortunately! But I hope you don't have it!!! :)

Hi, I had a urine test at one point in my pregnancy that showed a slight bit of protein but midwife wasn't worried as BP and everything else was fine. As said above it could just be a bit of discharge.

When I did get pre e much later in the pregnancy my levels of protein were high and doubled very quickly and I also had high BP and an awful migraine plus swelling so I really wouldn't worry if your midwife isn't worried Hun :-) xxx
