lily weighed 5lb 4oz now weighs 5lb in just 72 hrs shes lost 4 oz  i kno its normal but seems a lot wen shes so tiny ....shes taking 35ml of ebm every 3 hrs ....the baby doc said anything from 20~30 was ok ...i just dont kno if my milks enough for her

Normal weight loss is up to 10% of body weight, but that should be regained ideally within the next week.
I think your milk is perfect for her! :hugs:
I was freaking out that I didn't have enough for Simon becasue my milk took awhile to come in. I used a pump to express colostrum, then milk, so I could see that enough was coming out. I used this in addition to nursing and it made me feel a lot better. Expressing is a lot of work, though.

its very normal for babies to lose weight it can be anything from just 1 lb to god knows what, ur mw should have warned u about this happening zane only lost 2lbs after he was born but he was put onto ff when he was 4 days old bf was too painful and he ddnt like it.

dont worry about it lo will start to gain that weight right back soon

Like the others have said it's very normal. Hayden was 7lbs 6.1oz at birth but when we checked out of the hospital at 24hrs old he was 6lbs 13oz

My son lost 10 oz in the 3 days before my milk came in. It is totally normal.

2lbs is a HUGE amount and he would be admitted to hospital for such a large weight loss...do you mean 2 ounces????

the majority of babies lose about 10% of their body weight and regain it within 10days or so but obviously they all vary. The trick is not to weigh them too often, as long as baby has lots of wet and dirty nappies they should be fine and just get them weighed fortnightly or monthly when they get a bit bigger.

typo! lol i havent been able to type right all day yes 2 oz lol

altho he has resently lost 2 lbs and no one would do a thing to help

2lbs at his age isn't as big of a deal, he is probably getting more mobile right? that's probably why :)

he lost weight due to illness as he wasnt eating and was sicking up his fluids

Why dont you think your milk is enough?

Cos while in hospital they wanted me to top her up with premmie milk cos shes so small but my mw came today and said anything under 8oz weight loss is fine for her weight and to keep up with just my milk if she as lost sunday when they weigh her again she said we will have to re-think but she doesnt think she will loose anymore

My dd lost nearly 30% of her birth weight but she is an exception for many reasons. Persevere and don't let them force you into anything you are not 100% happy with hun. Just kee trying. Your milk is designed to be what your baby needs xxx

Ok hun - I just wanted to check.

Your milk should be more than enough. It's very rare to not have enough. I think they obviously are keener with preemies but I do think they end up putting mum's of preemies off BFing because of it.

So long as she has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and gains a little each week then you are doing absolutely fine honey.

Well done and congrats - she's a sweetie x

She is now taking 60 mls every 3 hrs and i am expressing 200mls every 3 hrs so ive more then enough for what shes taking ....feelin a lot better tday thanks xxx

Hi hun. Grace lost 8 oz in the first 3 days. She weighed 5lb 4oz. I'd say she actually started gaining weight after the first week when my milk really came in and we got settled in bfing. Try not to worry, see how she is at her next weigh in and go from there. Grace only put on a small amount of weight each week at first xx

There is a special fortifier they can add to EBM instead of giving them the preemie formula milk.

I was always told that it is harder to tell when you express if the baby is getting the fatty hind milk... That is the only thing I can think of. Time will tell... give it a few days, if your baby is peeing and having bowel movements etc then she should be fine. You can buy vitamin D supplement drops which are recommended here for breastfeeding moms. And just keep an eye for signs of dehydration.
