was thinking about christening Mylo.. but at this age think not.. but then again what is the age people get their babys christened???

or would it be silly of me to get him christened when hes 1? and have a joint birthday/christening party?

easier that way.. cos friends and family live so very far away and would be a hassel asking them to come to 2 parties within months of eachother.

what do you think?
is 1 year old.. near or on his first birthday a bad idea to get him christened?

I had James my oldest Christened at 6 months and would have done the same with Noah, only we get married in July and can't afford to do both.
I think we will probably do it when he is 1. :flower:
Mixing it with his birthday sounds like a good idea to me :hugs:

Adam is being christened at the same time as we get married, next week. He'll be almost 7 months old. I wanted to have the christening when he was 9 weeks old but it wasn't possible with OH's family (his mum was abroad at the time I had in mind, which was when my brother and his family were in the UK for a few days - they live in Norway), but it was really only because I wanted Adam to wear our 100-year-old family christening gown and thought he'd not fit in it later on, but he will. Combining the costs *was* a factor as well, along with making it more convenient for my family and most of my friends, who would have to travel a long way and stay in hotels, etc; I didn't want to ask them to do it twice either. We'd have been ok doing it later but it was either now or a lot later, as my sister in law is expecting her 3rd baby in June and I didn't want to ask her to make the trip with 2 young kids and a new baby.

A joint first birthday and christening party sounds like a great idea. I doubt we'll do much on Adam's birthday, just spend it with local family, I guess.

Someone suggested we do that and get Noah Christened at the wedding! I still keep mulling the idea over. Let us know how it goes! :hugs:

Its funny cause when i was born you had to be christened right away. I was born on the wednesday and christened the next sunday because you weren't supposed to take your baby out before it was christened. Things are different now though my cousin got christened recently and he was 8.

I think it is a good idea to have it at the same time as a birthday as it saves you money. Things are so expensive these days and it means you don't have to invite people to 2 different things.

Tom was just over a month old when he was christened :)

the youngest ive seen is prob about 1 month, oldest child about 10ish...so whatever works best for you would be fine!! xx

We actually planned it the other way round - the christening was all arranged and then we decided to see if we could get married as well (been engaged 2 years so it wasn't as sudden a decision as it might sound). Asked the vicar and he was fine with it. I'm really happy, as there will be a lot of people I'd not have asked to the christening who'll be there (not asked because of how far they have to travel, Scotland to London, for example) as I think people are prepared to travel for a wedding but maybe not a christening.

my eldest was 9months old, middle son was 14months old and blake will be 7months and few weeks. i dont think there is a right or wrong age.

in the olden days they used to get them christened within a few weeks of birth as the infant death rate was so high and they believed that un-chriestened child would not go to heaven.

Me and my sister we're both about 9-10 months. I think combining it with his birthday celebrations is a great idea!

Sounds like a good idea to combine. Emma will be 9months when she's christened x

We had James christened at 7 weeks.

It's a good idea to combine it with birthday celebrations.

Poppy was 11 months when she was christened. In hindsight we wonder whether to christen the new baby either much younger, or a bit older, just because at 11 months Poppy wasn't quite crawling and so we carried her around all day, she got passed around which she didnt like and I think if she was crawling, or preferably walking, it may have been better for her.

Joe was 5 months when we had him christened...I would have loved to do it earlier but it wasn't possible earlier.

I think if you christen a child of 4 or older that's kinda ridicolous (sry if somebody did that here and I offened you, bt it's my opinion), but in the end of the day it's personal choice, if you christen your child with 2 weeks or with 16yrs. lol

tthanks all.. putting the idea to OH tonight... let you know what he says..

well went down ok with OH.. potential date is 8th August.. hopefully thats a sunday! lol

..now I have to look into getting it planned.

Where do I start? find a willing vicar?

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!

We're still a bit old school then, I'm RC and it's still unusual for even a 1 year old not to be baptised, it's normally between 6-8 weeks. It's goo oportunity to get the family all together and celebrate the new baby, and there's always lots to celebrate, I've got 30 cousins, 11 aunts and uncles, 3 brothers and all my cousins kids!

We've all been baptised in the same church so it wasn't all that complicated. Are you planning on sending Mylo to a faith school? We all went to the same RC school but it's very popular and to get a place you really need to be baptised.

well I am RC.. well baptised that way when I was 7 cos mum and dad split up and she did it outta spite but I dont attend church.
OH is christian... so dunno what to do really.. or what school.

didnt know they wold rather admit a child who is baptised as apposed to a child who is not. Thats a bit discriminative isnt it?

It is and it isn't, they're allowed to have it as an admittance criteria because it's a religion thing, although they have to have a certain percentage that aren't RC. There are other things they take into consideration as well such as if you have family already at the school or went there yourself, but if you had your heart set on a certain school that was RC then being baptised will certainly increase your chances of getting a place.
