How quickly can kids move between height or weight percentiles?

I could bore you with the background of why I want to know but it would probably be a long, sleep deprived ramble. The short version is my son isn't as heavy or as tall as he genetically should be, sees a dietician and has a fortified calorie/protein diet as well as prescribed nutritional drinks. He is taking more in at the moment (touch wood) and I'm curious to know how quickly children can move up percentile lines from your experiences. :flower:

I've heard it's common for boys to have a big spurt in their teens. For ex, my spouse was super skinny, maybe 140lbs and 5'9 at the beginning of high school; then he started weight lifting at about 16 and reached full maturity--he is now 6'0 and 195-200lbs. There are also those charts you can use to kind of figure out your child's height based off mom and dad, and then there is me and my brother--I'm 5'4 and he is 6'4-6'5! I "should" be a bit taller as my dad is almost 6'2 and my mom 5'6.

Our own son was born at the 90th for height and 75th for weight; however, he ranges from 50-65% for height and 75-80% for weight. I don't take too much stock in it, though, as he is only 8 months old haaa

My dd was born in the 5th percentile for both and stayed there for a while until maybe 3 months then she shot up to around the 50th percentile of everything until her 18 month check where she was at the 28th percentile for height and maintaining just under 50th for weight. It really depends on the kid. If your son eats well he could grow a lot by his next appointment. I know kids do a lot of growing in the first 2 years then slow down some after. It can change fast. My doc said as long as there was a positive increase with weight they don't worry. It's when they don't gain or loose weight that it's worrisome

My DD was born at .6 percentile... so barely on the charts. She stayed there until 2 years old, and then slowly started going up. Steady and slow. I fed her high calorie, nutritious Whole Foods and now she sits about 30 percentile at 4.5 years.

Xx

Any tips on the high calorie nutritious food? Just in case there's anything I'm not already offering, or new ideas on serving it.

What percentage is he on my lg was born on the 5 th and at 4 she is only on the 20th she will always be small but is perfectly healthy

Mine are all between 9th and 25th currently, but at one point my youngest Son completely fell off the chart, well below the 0.4th percentile, and within a few months shot up to the 50th (and in now 25th which is where he should be based on genetics) ! So they can change in a short space of time.

Following a coeliac diagnosis my son was on a high calorie gluten free diet and went from about 3rd percentile to 25th in about 6 months. The first couple of months of that we're a bit of a write off though. He didn't lose any weight but didn't gain much either, once he was properly gluten free with nursery being s lot more vigilant about kids sharing their food it took about 4 months and that was with a massive height change too.
We were giving lots of things like nut butters, avocado dips, lots of cheese etc.

When my son was young he dropped several centiles very quickly after an illness. After 1 month of a calorie and fat dense diet he shot back up to his original centile. As he's grown older his weight centiles has gone down and his length centile has gone up. He's over 90th for height and at last checking 10th for weight.

My son was at or below the 5th percentile for height and weight from birth to 3 years (was preemie and iron deficient anemia), went to the 10th at 4 years.

My daughter was born around the 50th, stayed there until she became mobile around 6-9 months than dropped to the 30th amd stayed there ever since.

The new one doesn't have much history, born around the 50th, shot up to 86th for his next two appointments.

Mine have pretty much held their places on the charts.

We focused on high fat but nutritious foods. She eats avocado, eggs, nuts, cheese, etc. We use butter or healthy oils to cook her food in when we make her something (just a small amount but it adds up.) She also likes chocolate smoothies (whole milk or almond milk, banana, chocolate nutritional drink powder, and sometimes we add peanut butter too.)

My dd is all over the place. She was born on the 25th centiles for height and 9th for weight (or maybe vice versa?) and quickly shot up to 50th for both (she never lost any weight after birth) - she stayed around the 50th for a while then gradually fell to 9th, she then had a growth spurt and went up to 75th for weight and 91st for height when we got her dairy allergy sorted.

Now she's tiny for her age, she's 2 and wears 9-12m clothes (some 6-9 also) with the odd 12-18 month thing thrown in there. She's a size 4 shoe. I'm starting to get worried about how small she is, people are always commenting on how advanced she is for her age because they think she is about 1 and they are shocked when they find out she's actually a normally developed 2 year old, lol.

What weight is she? Alice was always tiny and still is x

I don't know tbh, we are having a lot of trouble with the health visitor who won't give us an appointment at the baby clinic because she sees a dietician, our dietician measured her head circumference at her last appointment. We weighed her on the wii (clothed and wearing a nappy) and I can't remember her weight but I plotted it on the chart and she was just under the 9th centile. Neither her dad or I are tall/heavy so I'm not overly worried. I was more concerned when she was nearly on the 91st centiles!

Emma has bounced around all over the charts, it seems to take a few months to notice a large drop or gain. She's been anywhere and everywhere between 14th-71st centile for length, and the 29th-68th for weight.

She was born on the 60th centile. By 4 months she had doubled her birthweight but she has not tripled it yet at 15 months. Her weight gain slowed after 4 months and went from speak of 68th centile to 29th, which was a gain of 400g between 6 and 9 months (a pound I think). She has been eating like mad and is now 41st centile fully clothed for weight, and 48th for length.
