I say them the same, I can't see how you wouldn't?
One of my great grandmas was Viwa and her sisters were Vi, Vue and Vera. We called her Vera with the 'e' sounding like the 'air' in fair or hair. They were all born in Fiji so I don't know if that changes the way Vera was pronounced.
The different accents that we all have on here make the interpretations confusing though.
I think the pronunciation might be a regional thing (kind of like the US-UK difference in the word Garage). My first instinct was "Vair-ah" but then I got to thinking about it and I'm not really sure which way I would pronounce it if I wasn't focusing on it.
Definitely vair-ah in New Zealand. I've never ever heard veer-ah and I'm not even sure how you would say it? The 've' as in verge? Sounds weird to me. Or the 'ee' part like the ee's in pee?
minties - It almost sounds like ear with a V at the beginning and a on the end. Vear-a. Best way I can think of to explain it lol. More like ee in pee.
Haha! Us kiwis have probably mangled the English language somewhat. Ear/air are the same from my gob. As bear/beer/bare would be. Also hair/here etc etc.
I'm going to try and say Vera in an elegant British accent from now on ;-)
