10 months ttc, still early, and 2 years NTNP
So got DHs 1st SA results back today and the Doctor didn't want to do anymore tests on me and he just "oh this is very bad":dohh: So here it is

volume:1.3
sperm concentration: 25.9
total sperm concentration:33.6
motility:16
viscosity:3
progession:6
activity:2 1=sluggish 4=very active

Strict morphology

normal:3
small:36
taper:22
amorphous:30
acrosomal deficiency:8

few polymorphonuculear leukocytes and occasional spermatogonia.

what does that mean?

Doc sent out referral for FS. should come in a week so we can do iui. So we have to pay out of pocket.

any advice would help thanks :)

the sperm concentration is on the low side, but ok. However, the volume is low (they like 2ml minimum), motility should be at least 40% and morphology at least 4%.

Is this his first sample? If so, you might want to try a second one in a few weeks. My OH first sample had a total count of 18M and morphology of 4%. He has taken vitamins and cut down on alcohol and second sample 3 months later was much better (count increased to 29m). He now falls under the normal parameters, even though his morphology is still low at 6%. We've decided to give it another three months and test again before deciding the way forward. We too would have to pay, it makes it so difficult to decide whether to keep trying naturally, do iui or go straight to ivf.

Nurseh 14- Honestly speaking- the numbers are not that great. Volume, motility and morphology are all low. I would suggest u get a retest done and if the results are the same get him onto some vitamins. Dont think an IUI wud be recommended on these numbers. Maybe an IVF or ICSI would be better. But still get an opinion from your doc. All the best

Yes this is the first one. I am hoping they will improve. The thing is he doesn't drink alcohol, but he does smoke cigarettes. I keep trying to push him to quit but he won't. So my doc reccomended IUI but we will see what the FS recomends. I just don't know how we would pay for ivf. Might be forced to ttc naturally while saving up. Good luck to you hun too!:hugs:

Thanks for being honest.:hugs:Thats what I need to hear! I appreciate the feedback.

Just a little bit of info My hubbys 1st SA was low but went back three months later and it had gone up!! He wasn't on vitamins or anything 1st count was 24 million with 10% mortility and 10% morphology second was 212 million 50%mortility and 10% morphology. Although the numbers aren't great for your DH dont worry til you have a second SA to compare with :)

Def think you should get a 2nd test done in a couple of months. If he wont quit smoking, up his vitamin/fruit & veg intake, Zinc is a very important mineral for sperm production.
No hot baths, wear loose shorts, cycling is also meant to be a bad thing & it takes 2 or 3 months for sperm production, so any changes won't make a difference straight away.

Hope that helps, ...also, apparently it helps if there's a high 'turnover':haha:

My hubby's SA came back with low mobility, we then paid £90.00 for a more detailed test, it came back fine after 2 poor free NHS tests.

Low and behold I'm now pregnant, so get a detailed test done, any private fertility clinics do them for around £90.00

How much is that is US dollars:blush:. In the US we only have private:growlmad: Thats whats upsetting. The SA cost $190.00:shock:
We are going to a private FS to get another SA and start treatment. Congrats on your BFP!
