Hello,

Need some advice.

My LO is 3 weeks old today and is drinking 5oz's of C&G every 4 hours.

( Sometimes 3 during the day but mainly every 4)

Does this seem alot for his age? I was wondering whether to try him on hungrier baby milk as people keep commenting on how 5oz's is alot for a newborn to be drinking.

Havn't got a clue, I thought you just fed on demand?

He started on 3oz's when he was born, then went upto 4oz's within a week, and since about Tuesday he's been drinking 5.

Any comments / advice appreciated x

hi there, corey was drinking 5 oz every 2-3 hours day and night and was gaining weight very rapidly over a pound a week so i did put him on to the hungry baby milk and that did seem to be better for him as he then had 5 oz still but only every 4 hours and started sleeping through from last feed at about 9pm till bout 6 in the morning. It could have been coincidence that he started sleeping through when on hungry baby milk he might have done that anyway but i am convinced it helped. he is 10 weeks now and has 6 oz about 6 times a day. He is over 14 lb now. you cannot overfeed a baby though and yes i beleive you should just feed your lo whenever he is hungry. i would maybe just keep him on the milk he is having for now as to be honest what he is drinkng sounds fine for his age, if he is hungry then feed him, try not to be too worried bout how many oz etc or how often. i only changed corey as he was shooting up in weight and had gone above his centile line and i was worried he was getting too big, but eveyrone reassured me after i changed his milk that a baby cannot be overfed as they are just sick if they eat too much, hope this helps a bit.

hungry baby dint do morgan any good he dint go any longer, i think ur LO doing fine for age cos morgan was on 4/5oz at that age also hungry milk seems to line the bottle so wether its more cals in it on not :?
morgan was also on 3oz then 5oz within 2wk ! then a massive 7oz by 2mth ! xx

Thanks ladies, I'm not one for ounce counting or clock watching I'm happy to carry on as I am, but people are PISSING me right off telling me what to feed him and when.

I just wanted some re-assurance, god I'm in a shit mood today. :gun:

Earl is 5 weeks (nearly 6) and is on 6oz every 3 hours in the day, 4 at night.

I would keep on going as you are for now and see how your LO gets on. I've been told that they level out eventually once they reach a 'peak' of growing....no sign as yet but we live in hope! Personally, I don't see how a baby can grow too much. They harp on about how they need to put on weight, then complain when you and LO do too good a job...(Sorry pet peeve of mine there!)

I would keep off Hungry baby for now too....the current formula obviously agrees with your LO so it seems a shame to upset them for no reason.

You sound like u and baby are doing fine and are happy with his feeds so dont listen to other people. My 2nd baby went onto hungry baby milk at 2 weeks old coz he wud barely go 1 1/2 to 2 hours without screaming to be fed again and when we changed he was going the 3 - 4 hours. If ur wee one is going 4 hours no bother then i wud stick with the same milk. Its not hugely important what they take at each feed (unless its hardly any) as long as you feel he is happy, content and gaining weight then he is getting the right amount for him. My daughter is almost 8 weeks old and has only just started taking 4oz bottles every 3 - 4 hours and she is a happy content baby so i just feed her what she wants when she wants.

4 hours is longer than Ruby was going in the day at that age.
We started hungry milk at about 2 months... she is still on it now. I had to give her a carton of first milk when we were out the other day and she was definitely hungry again quicker than usual.

thats fine and i wouldnt put a baby under a month or so on hungry baby milk i did it with archie and it made him constipated x

Thanks everyone, like I said just wanted re-assurance we are fine carrying on as we are :) xx
