LO has been on cow and gate hungry baby milk since about 1 month old but for the last month (hes now 4 months) he has been getting quite constipated and uncomfortable, crying, straining etc. and going upto 4 days wihtout pooing and when he has its been really thick and hard would comfort milk work? or changing back to normal milk? or giving ready made cartons rather than the powder?

If it was me I would try changing him back to the normal milk hon and see how that works out.It might be because the hungry baby milk is a bit stodgier?xxx

Comfort milk might help, or you could try giving him a little cool boiled water each day.

I wouldn't think switching back to stage 1 formula is a good idea after this amount of time on stage 2 - he'll be a lot hungrier and that is bound to cause problems one way or another. Cartons will be the same as the equivalent powdered variety.

Personally, I'd try the water first - at 4 months it's handy for him to start getting used to having small amounts of it, and you could try using a cup, which my LO loves. I'd say if you aim for about 1oz of water per day, you should see an improvement.
