Hungry little man, what to do?!

Jack's such a hungry baby!
He's 13 days old and is now 8lb 13oz, his birth weight was 7lb 15oz. He takes 6-7 ounces a feed (he's FF) and is still hungry! Infact he's eating so much he makes himself sick :(
I've tried giving him a bit, waiting, giving him more, but the results still the same. We're on SMA gold at the moment, tried moving him onto SMA white but he just projectile vomits that everywhere ¬_¬

Anyone know what I can give him?

sorry hun no advice, im sure a formula mummy will have some good advice for you :)

He is far too young to be having hungry baby milk hun it will just upset his tummy and make him constipated. Does your little boy vomit up to an hour after a feed or further after a feed than that? Is the vomit cottage cheese like or is it watery?

About 5 minutes after feeding, usually while winding or when we place him in his basket (like a little fountain it was!) and it's watery.

I am a little stumped hun as it sounds like he wants more milk but can't take the quantity. Usually that kind of vomit comes back because he is over full and has trapped wind. Have you tried him with something like Infacol for wind/griping pains as it could be that simple. Maybe wind him more often during a feed for a couple of days and see if it helps. It is so difficult with small babies who appear to be very hungry as they quite often aren't and it is something else but the extra food helps with their needs. If that makes sense.

For example my last 2 had quite severe reflux and the biggest symptons in the early days were extra hunger and vomitting quite badly within the first 15 mins of eating. They had huge feeds and infact they both took 3oz within an hour of their births. After a year on infant Gaviscon they were sorted.

What I'm saying in a rather long windes way is that sometimes the symptons aren't what they appear and can be signs of things you wouldn't think of xxx

Just out of interest what does it mean if the vomit looks like cottage cheese? Cos charlie is being seen by the paediatrition on monday and his sick is sometimes like this x

Im guessing cottage cheese would mean the milk had been digested - just a guess

I would speak to your HV about perhaps changing him onto a different type of milk, 6-7 ounces of milk is a heck of a lot for a 2 week old baby.

SMA White is safe to use from birth onwards hun.

Also have you tried giving him a little drink of water? He could well just be thristy some of the time?

have you tried giving a dummy instead?

Sma white is fine to give just now hunn, my little man is on cow n gates stage2 and he is nearly 2 weeks old its formulted for hungrier babies from birth. 6-7 oz is a hell of a lot for that age of baby, Euan manages 3oz in one go, just. id see about maybe changeing to another brand of milk, maybe aptimal or CnG try the 2nd stage ones as they are casien based instead of whey based so take longer to break down making baby feel fuller for longer, like PP says try a little water too as he may be thirsty.

hope you get it resolved soon hunn.

oh wow and i thought leeanne was taking a lot at 3-4oz! hope you get something figured out :hugs:

i know some people dont agree with hungrier milk-but we put elliot on cow and gate hungrier milk early on as he was the same-still hungry but more milk=sick! the hungrier milk worked wonders for us personally.

keely.

the hungry milk worked for us too, maddi was 3 weeks old when we switched to aptamil hungry baby, from aptamil one, and have never looked back.

i would speak to you hv honey, and also try a dummy, lots of luck x

Thanks girls :) have put him on Aptamil for now, if he's still guzzling it we're gonna try the next stage in that. Have got a dummy but trying to keep it to bedtime only, he tends to spit it out most of the time anyway :p

well i dont want to scare u but i wud take him to the doctor about it my sister did the same thing and it had to do with somthing in the throst or somthing where the fluid was getting stuck and not going into her tummy and when she burped or was layed down she threw it up....... just go see what the doc says

And let me know what happened :)

I thought it could be something like that, until he got weighed and it turned out he'd put on almost a whole pound in less than a fortnight :p it's definitely going down, he just feeds wayyy too much for his little tum to handle.

Hungrier baby milk is fine to switch to, when Jayden was on 3oz bottles he wanted more so I uped it to 4oz bottles but he still started becoming restless at night and wanting to be fed every 2 hours so I decided to give him hungrier baby milk for his 3 night time feeds and stage 1 formula for the 3 day time feeds, he did get abit constipated so I started given him water and it has sorted him out and now poos regularly with no problems, I told my hv this is how Im doing things and she was so happy that hes having water to sort out the constipation and she told me the other day that hes thriving and putting on weight steadily, Jayden is on aptamil formula, I think I will be putting him up to 5oz bottles soon but for now I give him water after each feed just to fill him up and hes satisfied with this for now
