This young guy named Kasper (he's from somewhere in Eastern Europe I think) moved in above us. I'm enamored by the name for some reason and can't stop coming back to it as a possibilty!
OH says its ridiculous and reminds him only of the friendly ghost!!

I really like Kasper. But with the friendly ghost connotations I don't think I'd choose it here either. Doesn't mean it's not beautiful though.

I like it

BUT....I love Jasper....does that do anything for you?? x

I like it. Jenny Frost from atomic kitten called little boy Casper!!

I like it but have to agree with others, reminds me of the friendly ghost lol sorry!
don't you just hate that though... you hear a name and u like it but then it reminds you of something or someone and it puts you or OH off?!

I think he may be made fun of all his life. I am sure he'd get SO tired of hearing the whole ghost joke, jmo sorry

Casper isnt that well known here for the ghost which was just a one off movie here, but trather for the Kasperle Theatre' which is a handpuppet play which main 'character' is called Kasper.

My step-brother is called Caspar (Cas) and he hates it. It is one of the three wise men.

i like kasper but u will get the ghost comparison

we had sabrina for a girl and everyone was like sabrina the teenage witch :duh:

Goober - I really like the name "Casper" and "Cas", but I especially like the name "Caspian" which is on my list too!

Also like "Jasper", but I'm a Brummie and it makes me think of "Jasper Carrott"!

Not sure which is better; a friendly ghost or a funny man from Brum.

x

It's cute... but i do think of the friendly ghost. Is your neighbor handsome? Maybe that is why you like the name? I often notice i think of a name based on my view of someone i know who has that name! If that person is pretty/handsome... or reaclly nice & charming for instance... i always seem to think fondly of their name!

I like Casper more than Jasper, personally!

Maybe you can ask your neighbor what he thinks of his name? See if he likes it or if he says something like, "People always teased me bc of my name!" I'm sure he can offer some great insight into the name!

Casper is one of our potential boy names, we love it. I understand that there is the friendly ghost connotation, but are kids born in 2009 going know about that when they're older? Just because we think of that doesn't mean our kids are going to? It is still on TV, I haven't seen it around for a while (I'm in the UK so maybe its a US thing)

Also I think you'd be hard pressed to find a name without any connotations at all, I love Jasper too but it doesn't shorten as well as Casper (Cas!).

i LOVE it!!! if we were having a boy he would have been Kasper!! :-)

think the friendly ghost is 'our' era tho so wont be too many problems.

I like it

BUT....I love Jasper....does that do anything for you?? x
same :)
can't use Jasper myself anymore as my friend just gave birth to a little Jasper hehe

I think he may be made fun of all his life. I am sure he'd get SO tired of hearing the whole ghost joke, jmo sorry
i've been working in day care, taking care of a kasper for almost 2 months now
and reading the replies here is the first time i make the connection "oh riiiight, the ghost" lol.

it'll be hard to find a name without any connotation really,
in school text books they read alot of stories and some names are bound
to show up and then the whole class shares a giggle for the afternoon.

It does remind me of the ghost too i'm afraid. If you really like it but your OH doesn't then why not have it as a middle name?

While I can see why you like it I can also see your husband's reasons for not liking it. I would try to pick something you both like. Maybe you can use it as a middle name?
