Hi,

I had a nice (as nice as labour can be ) and quick labour with my 1st as my waters broke at 8.45am and contractions started by 10.30am. By 4pm I was fully dilated and at 5.45pm our little sunshine was born.

As I realise all labours can be different I am thinking of looking into hypnobirthing. Has anyone done it or planning on doing it? If so, where do I start?

Any help would be much appreciated.

:coffee:

Here to learn for myself! I've read a bit about it on wiki I think, but thats about it. I would love some real life experiences!

Best thing to do is decide if you want a class (if so you will need to research local ones) otherwise you can look up the books and DVDs. I don't know which are best though as I'm taking a class run by my mw. :)

I have been doing the Hypnobabies Home Study Course, and LOVE it so far!:)

I was looking into doing this for my second baby hut unfortunatly never had a chance to go to any of the classes i got a book and cd about it online and listened to it a coiple of times but it wasnt the same to be honist next time i will make sure to go to the classes. I would say go for it though as i have heard its amazing!!!! i used some of the techniques i learnt from the book and cd and got through my labour with no pain relief and it was only an hour and a half and i just managed to get into the pool to give birth lol deffinatly give it a go x

I've read such positive hypnobirthing stories! I'm starting to look into it, and I think I'm going to go the book/audio route rather than taking a class. I've been researching it and taking notes to start to get a better idea of what it's all about.

I've got a while to go yet but I have been looking into this as well. I just purchased a book and having been researching some music. Definitely going to practice! Anything helps.

I'd honestly recommend giving it a try. As long as your mind is open to the techniques, it worked for me. I didn't go to classes i used a book and cd, sourced on the internet. Also created a little book of affirmations found this useful for me. My birth plan was pretty flexible as suffered from pre-eclampsia, i was induced at 38 weeks with a pessary. I was still able to use the techniques and delivered naturally without pain relief (not by choice but because the midwife didn't believe i was in established labour!!) but it was totally doable for me and i was happy with my birth experience. It was intense i went from 1cm to delivered in an hour and a half but i definately used the techniques to get into the zone and stay calm and focussed. Sorry for the long post! Good luck ladies. :flower:

I would love to read your birth story if you have one! Very inspiring, especially because I feel like most people who are induced use that as an excuse when they cave and get an epidural (guilty myself).

I didn't use Hypnobirthing, but I did use Natal Hypnotherapy and I would recommend it to anyone. I had a completely pain free and drug free labour and home birth. It was the Maggie Howell programme of 4 cds, plus there was a book and 2 x 1 day courses. Their website is easy to find - google: Natal Hypnotherapy, and it should point you in the right direction!

Back to say that Hypnobabies worked like a gem through my 10-hour Pitocin-induced labor last week! It was an amazing experience!!!:)

I used hypnobabies and bought the home study for both the leclair and Mongan methods with my first dd in 2011! I used h cd every single day, I had a horrendous induction and I found the hypnosis to be ineffective and ended up with an epidural after four days in the hospital.

It almost made me write off hypnosis completely, I never once used my hypnobabies CDs in my second pregnancy.

I was induced again at the hospital and during labour actually remembered all the hypnosis training. It all came flooding back and it got me through active labour. I especially found the affirmations useful and utilised the low, deep, vibratory oooo and ahhhh and eeeeee vowel sounds during contractions. I found they did relax me, allowed me o stay on top of contractions and aided with the visualisations of my cervix opening allowing my contractions to be focused and effective. My active labour was 3.5 hrs and I managed a pitocin induction with no pain medication and refused epidural. I really think the hypnosis helped second time around and once you do it, if you commit, it stays with you, like a learned muscle memory.
