Hi guys! For some reason my phone wont let me post threads anymore so I've finally gotten round to firing up the steam engine on my awful computer to post my birth story xD
Imogen Megan Harris arrived at 1:09am on 2nd of March, at 36 weeks exactly, weighing 6lb3oz
I'd had a bit of a rollercoaster leading up to her birth, having been in hospital at 30 weeks with contractions which they stopped, then again at 34 weeks when they found out I was 4cm dilated with bulging membranes! I stayed in overnight on that occasion but nothing progressed so i discharged myself and went home to sort some last minute bits out, as we knew it wouldn't be long.
Sure enough, at at 35 weeks (I forget how many days) my waters broke. Thats when the fun began. We rushed to the hospital, expecting they'd induce me as my baby was no longer protected, but no, they put me on the ward (which I hate with a passion*) and OD'd me on antibiotics (Bright orange pills, bright orange sick
).
I honestly had no idea what was happening. I was initially told I'd be on the ward for 48 hours then they'd induce me, however as the 48 hour mark approached they decided they were going to send me home on antibiotics.
I had one last monitor before they were going to discharge me, during which they noticed my baby's heartrate was sleepy, and she hadnt been moving since 2 that afternoon, so the plan changed yet again, to send me over to L+D where they'd monitor me more while they decided whether they were going to induce me or give me an emergency caesarean section!
Luckily my contractions started shortly after I arrived in L+D, and 3hours 25 minutes later my beautiful daughter was in the room
My labour was a bit of a polava, despite being so quick. I had a midwife who didnt know what transition was, didnt believe me when I said I needed to push, and didnt believe me that the epidural didnt work. In fact she called the anaesthetist back in who kept putting an ice pack on my legs and asking if it was cold (you can imagine how I felt about that. "Yes its cold, its f**king ice!" ) and afterwards, when I stood up to go to the bathroom, the midwife asked me if I was sure I could feel my legs!!!! And they wouldnt let me have any painkillers afterwards because I'd "had an epidural" -_- Nice to feel like your in safe hands
Anyway, I was put on the ward for 2 more days, then transferred to a family room in NICU so my partner could stay with us
Immy underwent phototherapy, which thankfully helped her to feed enough for her to avoid having a feeding tube, and we were allowed home a few days later![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
She's now nearly 5 weeks old and coming on in leaps and bounds
She was last weighed last week and was already at 8lbs!
Those are the bands she had on her ankles when we were at the hospital, they were too big for her and she kept kicking them off!
So yeah, thats my birth story done and dusted
Sorry about the essay, but I hope I've written it in a user friendly format
Thanks for reading ![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Epilogue
*Reasons I hate the ward:
1) They OD'd me on antibiotics!
2) They never tell me what's going on, whether its when I'm going home or that they suspect I have an infection .
3) The food is godawful.
4) They try and force me to order/eat the afforementioned godawful food, despite me expressing many times that I dont even want to so much as look at it.
5) The staff are way too invasive. If I've just given birth, or any time for that matter, I don't want someone coming round first thing in the morning and opening my curtains for the world to view me.
6) There are some horribly rude midwives working there, one in particular told me I was being lazy for deciding to give my little girl some formula because she wouldn't breastfeed and her blood sugar levels were dropping.
7) I get static hair and dry skin there.
