I don't know what to say

I wouldn't do those things, I defo don't think it's right to give calpol every night. But I can't see how that diet would cause his poor health. He must've had a milk only diet for a good few months anyway? My boys never really drank milk even at 8 months, they both refused and I was told to give them yoghurt and cheese instead. She may just be unlucky with him not sleeping. If she's concerned I would take him to the gp and they can check him over

DS2 is 8 months old and it feels like he's had a constant cold since he was 3 weeks old.

I can count on one hand how many times he's STTN, last night he was up every 2 hours.

He really struggles with his teeth and this in turn affects his sleep.

The calpol & diet don't sound great but I don't think they'll be causing his grumpiness, that could just be his personality. I agree with PP of she's worried then she should see her HV/GP

My youngest had a cold basically her whole first year!! Nothing more than a runny nose really, but there was always something.

At 9/10 months, she was barely drinking 2 bottles (a bedtime one and A night feed) as she just was not interested in milk at all, and at 14 months she stopped drinking milk at all, and still wont to this day.

She had cut all 16 teeth by 14 months, and I did go through alot of 'phases' where I would give calpol before bed, in the sheer hope that it would help her to sleep... Not that it ever really worked, but I was desperate and knew she was teething.

Her diet isn't the best either. She has had crisps like skips/quavers etc from when she started food at 6 months. She has two sisters who are still young so alot of food gets shared (or stolen!) and it was kind of unavoidable. Fish fingers etc I dont even think they are that bad, and tinned/packet stuff might not be the healthiest/contain the most goodness, but I doubt they will be doing any harm.

In all honest, my now 17 month old eats pretty horribly, was on 3 meals and snacks with no daytime milk by about 8/9 months, is smaller than alot of babies her age, had her fair share of calpol as well as a never ending cold... And I blame shit luck 😂

Your friend is probably struggling, and doing whatever she can to get by. We dont all get 'textbook babies' and its not always possible to do everything perfectly.

Hopefully as the nicer weather comes in, her little guy can catch a break and build his little immune system back up. And in a few months he will be totally different, and your friend will be very happy that you have been there and supported her when she needed it xx

thanks ladies. I say to her to go to the gp but usually dismisses their advice if she doesnt agree saying hes her baby and she decided what happens to him. xxx

Well this is what I was wondering.. Whether she wants the advice or not. Most people know what the guidelines are they just choose to ignore them. Here they have a 12-16 week weaning talk where a nursery nurse comes and tells you when to wean, what foods to make etc. I don't know why she's asking you if she just wants to do her own thing...

I have no idea, thats why i came on here to see if i was totally wrong. I must admit ive been spoiled with my kids at night and forgot not all sleep through the night which is totally normal. i just feel so bad. Im going to delete the original post as i dont want it to seem like im bad mouthing her. just needed a little advice. thanks ladies xxx

I would suggest stopping the daily calpol as extended use of paracetamol can lead to kidney and liver damage

Other than that I'd be a supportive ear and maybe suggest alternative meals/more home cooking
