Hey all

Heres my story of Mia's birth.

On Thursday, 14th June, I decided to stop freaking out about the impending birth, and to accept it would happen when it was meant to. So we took the dog out for a walk, went to Tesco, made fruit smoothies, Craig sliced his pinkie open when a glass he was cleaning shattered round his hand, and off we went to A&E for a stitch. (they said it was superficial and no skin left to stitch so tough lol).

We came home, put the kids to bed and I felt very tired and stuff so we went to bed early, and watched TV for a bit, then about 10pm I went to sleep.

Around 11.44pm, my 19mth old daughter started screaming, which is weird cos she never wakes up during the night....so I nudged hubby (as SPD meant had Stay in Bed Priveleges :haha:) and off he went to her bedroom to sooth her, tuck her back in, etc etc.

I felta warmth down there, and assumed it was excess discharge. But a few seconds later I felt it again.....Deciding I had probably peed myself a bit, I got up and went to my bathroom, done a pee, but when I wiped, it was pink stained.....I didnt pee pink.... So I wen to get a pad and put it on, and started feeling little gushes, when I checked, sure enough it was my waters :happydance: This was about 11.55pm.

Hubby was still with our toddler, so I went and sat on the bed, ready to tell him our exciting news! Meanwhile my tummy started feeling awful, and within seconds I experienced the infamous "clear out" in our bathroom (checked pad again as I was in shock lol) and tummy pains changed to mild contractions.

I texted my mum and told her things were happening and t be on stand by as she was my second birth partner. After half an hour I got annoyed waiting, and pains were upping a gear, so went though to Kaycis bedroom, and told hubby "time to phone you mum, my waters have went". He then asked me if I was joking :dohh:

so, MIL is on way and pains are still very manageable but I can feel them getting stronger. We get in the taxi MIL has arrived in and go to the hospital. Arrived at 1.20am, checked at 2.30am, 1.5cm dilated and cervix a little posterior, and 2cm thick.

Transferred up to labour ward as "high risk" and bounced away on the ball until next check at 6.30am - 2cm dilated, cervix moved forward and now 1cm thick.
went for a wander rounf the hospital, made the mistake of going near the canteen and smelt the bacon/sausages cooking, and promptly thre up repeatedly in the bin

went bac to the labour ward and put monitors back on and walked/bounced and squatted untill next check at 11am.....fully effaced and 3cm dilated - now officially in labour :wohoo:

Doctor said now I was in Active labour I should progress quicker and he would check me at 3pm, where he wanted me to be 7cm. After a couple of hours walking/bouncing/squatting, I hit a platuea and was desperate for a rest. Midwife suggested paracetemol and a dihydrocodeine, to allow me to relax and "jut let things progress" so I agreed to this and had a wee lay down and tried to doze for an hour. [BAD IDEA! Contractions spaced right out and were hardly felt anymore!] Up until now, contractions remained steady from the start at 2 mins apart....

Next check - 3pm.... no progress whatsoever....doctors suggest a csection, I ask for more time, they agree to re-check in two hours. So I ramped things up a gear and went a bit cray on that ball, bouncing my head off. after n ho
ur or so, contractions intensified and became really regular again. I tried EVERYTHING I could think of to get my cervix to open, visulisation, bouncing, gravity, squatting, horse lips, you name it!
Checked at 5.10pm and till no progress.....Doctors now strongly suggest a CSection and mum, hubby and midwife all agree. I, on the other hand, just burst into tears and had a mini-breakdown.

Eventually, I gave in and gave consent for the csection. So surgery was arranged.

I had to have my spinal put in three times as I was shaking so much, contractions racked up a gear or ten in the theatre, and I was in real amounts of pain.Eventually get it sorted though and operation gets underway.

Mia was born at 19.00 on the dot, and looked VERY chunky when she was shown to me over the screen, whilst they let Craig stand up and watch them pull her out of me.

They took her through to resus to be checked over (as standard) and cleaned up. Dad went with her, as did my blessing for him to go lol.

She had a crazy cord (like our toddler did!) and was screaming her wee head off!!

Surgeon told me I would be fine to have another baby in future as my uterus was in great shape, however the lower segment was paper thin and as such the VBAC continuing would have been very very risky. But, I'm still not sure how I feel about things ending this way....I'm sure I'll wrap my head round it soon enough.

But I am in love with my little princess, a few photos of which are below :flower:

Mia Young, born 15/06/2012 @ 19:00 weighing 8lb 6 oz (I guessed 8lb7oz!) and was 53 cm long :cloud9:
