Hi there, I've taken a bit of a hiatus lately; I had my daughter on June 22nd at 36+5 (funnily enough, that's the same exact gestation her big sister was born at).
I GOT MY VBAC!! It was the most wonderful experience, and a complete 180 from my older daughters birth. I'm so very happy with how everything turned out.
On the 21st I felt off, similar to how I started feeling with my other baby, and I just wanted to walk hah. Unfortunately the weather was shitty out and our treadmill decided to die on me. So I went over to the in laws and walked 3 miles on theirs (all the while MIL is making snide comments that I'm being dramatic and baby isn't coming, blah blah blah) Then DH and I took DD shopping so I could walk around the stores. I noticed I was starting to have contractions around 4:30pm, but they were super super irregular and annoying- but getting painful. I asked if we could go home. When we got home they got even more far apart but the pain stayed. I put DD down for bed at 8pm, and sat on my ball for a little bit- and went to bed myself at 9:30 bummed out thinking it was fizzling out to nothing. I woke up at 11:30 for whatever reason and when I stood up I realized I was soaked and continually leaking and the contractions were close together and quite painful. I went to the living room and told DH to get DD up so we could take her to his parents (luckily they only live 5 miles away) MIL got snarky on the phone "Oh, SHE -thinks- the babys coming aye? well it's late, I was going to bed." So DH said we'd just take DD with us then so she gets dramatic and starts going on but ultimately says to bring her over. (MIL is a huge pain in my ass and rather unstable) we made the 20 minute trip to the hospital while I'm trying to remember to breathe. We go in through the ER and I'm send up to L&D where I'm checked at 12:30 am (it's very hard to tell how dilated I am as my cervix is VERY retroverted.) one dr said 5, the other said 8 quite a difference. I'm thinking 5 was more correct. I was still managing the pain well enough so didn't want anything. Dr. came in with the ultrasound machine to check and make sure Talia was head down as my other was breech (hence the csection) she was so we were good to go! Doctor left the room and I had to most amazing nurse ever, she stayed in my room with me literally from the second I got there until her shift ended at 7:30am. Things were progressing nicely, we kept the lights dim, it was just DH, myself and the nurse. I was ready to push around 3am, and I just passively pushed when my body felt like it needed to, no coached pushing and the nurse massaged my perineum and talked me through contractions. When baby started crowning they called the doctor back into the room- he took over the perineum massage (my god, he man handled it- it hurt worse than her head coming out) but I know he was trying to help so I didn't tear. She was born at 4:15am 6lbs 3oz 18.5 inches long. They popped her up on my chest and I just stared at her- I had no idea what to do! (I was put under general anesthesia for my csection with my other daughter) It really was a magically experience and I'm so very fortunate to have gotten an on call doctor that was so completely supportive of my VBAC choice (When the pain got intense I started questioning my decision, and him and the nurse encouraged me to keep going that I could do it and didn't need another csection.) No episiotomy, or tears a little "road rash". Hands down if we ever decide to have another baby, I will be going all natural again- beats a section any day.
Here's a few photos from our hospital stay- I look horrible I had less than 2 hours of sleep in 48 hours and just pushed a child out.. I apologize in advance , I'll upload more recent ones later. And here's a picture of one of our first nursing sessions.. She decided daddy needed to be given the finger. sassy little girl.
