I'm scheduled for a c/s on Monday the 18th and have a few questions and concerns to bring up for you ladies who have already gone through it.

First, how many days did you stay? Did you wear your own clothes while hospitalized or the gown?

How bad is the pain? Is it over a 10 from a scale of 1-10? (can you tell I'm nervous about the pain?) By the second day, is the pain noticeably better or comparably the same as the first day?

If you've had pelvic pain during pregnancy, did it (kind of) go away after or did it still hurt (same or worse)? I've had really bad pelvic girdle pain since 2nd trimester, and it's just getting worse as the days go by. It's made worse if lying on back, which I would be in while getting c/s, so I'm afraid of potentially worsening of my pgp/spd.

I keep reading about bloating after c/s. Do they give you anything for it? I'll be taking ginger tea to help with bloating. I hope they're okay with that.

What did you find more comfortable to wear during the hospital stay? What did you find comfy wearing at home? I'm thinking of taking those foldover yoga pants, shirts that can be opened easily or pulled down for ease of bf, and long foldover skirt. Do you think these are ideal/good to wear?

Last question/concern (for now hehehe): kinda dumb q but does having c/s interfere with bf or affect when milk comes in? When did yours come in? How was your bf experience in the hospital, if you did?

Okay that's it for now. I'm so sorry, I've got lots of q and more but don't want to overwhelm anyone so I'm starting out with these first. I'd appreciate if you ladies offer me answers and encouragement as I'm really nervous about this. :flower:

First, how many days did you stay? I think people generally have to stay 48/72 hours depending on hospital policy or any complications. I was in a week but that was because one of the twins and step b so THEY needs antibiotics, would have even out earlier otherwise.

Did you wear your own clothes while hospitalized or the gown? My own PJs

How bad is the pain? Is it over a 10 from a scale of 1-10? (can you tell I'm nervous about the pain?) By the second day, is the pain noticeably better or comparably the same as the first day?

Usually you are fairly pain free for at least 12/16 hours after the surgery. Me and anethathics have a strange relationship, by the end I felt stuff, nothing terrible, but by the time I was in recovery I was in pain.

To be honest it did hurt more than I expected, but it was manageable, as long as my pain meds were regular the pain was just uncomfortable, if it wasn't it was a 7/8 on the first two days, but I was still able to breastfed, lift babies, walk about and get my tea on a tray etc.

Each day after it got better the first week was by far the worse.

But honestly, keep moving, take regular pain meds, and use hot and cold compresses and pain is totally manageable. If I sat for too long pain was worse.

If you've had pelvic pain during pregnancy: After each of my birth it's improved but not gone completely for a week days, but it was much better.

I keep reading about bloating after c/s. Do they give you anything for it? I
Didn't have any.

Those sound ideal, I managed to wear most things including jeans, but loose things were better. I did have a band to wear which was really tight and that really helped with the pain especially when I was out, but during the day I worse pjs, yoga trousers etc, and used a hot water bottle when I needed it.

Last question/concern (for now hehehe): kinda dumb q but does having c/s interfere with bf or affect when milk comes in? When did yours come in? How was your bf experience in the hospital, if you did?

I think for some ladies it a but delayed depending on how early the baby was, my was totally fine, milk was there and my section didn't have any affect on breastfeeding, I didn't manage for long, as one was tongue tied and couldn't latch and because I was in pain, I wasn't up to making milk for one and breastfeeding the other although I did combination until it dried up.

Honestly, it's not that bad, I've and both natural and section and both have their pros and cons. I'm planning another section this time so it can't be too bad.

First, how many days did you stay?

6, but I was there for induction as well so more like 4.5

Did you wear your own clothes while hospitalized or the gown?

You have to wear the gown for the epidural and surgery. I wasn't able to get out of mine until I was up on the 4th day (no worries, you should be up before that)

How bad is the pain? Is it over a 10 from a scale of 1-10? (can you tell I'm nervous about the pain?) By the second day, is the pain noticeably better or comparably the same as the first day?

The pain was not bad at all and I don't like IVs so I am a wuss :winkwink: I did get a shot of morphine on the first night (so about 6hrs after surgery) which I took to sleep better. I refused the morphine after that and stuck to paracetamol and diclofenac. I did stay on top of those though. I made sure to take it in good timing with when I would get up for the first time but quickly realized the pain wasn't enough for me to need meds after that. I did walk too much on that first day I was up though so I did take it that night. The pain I had was actually from gas more than anything. TAKE the stool softeners and pick your meals/snacks carefully to avoid things that will make you more gassy. Again, I was only allowed up on the 4th day so that played a big role in it I am sure. The only time I really hurt was when I choked/sneezed. THAT hurt but you put a pillow to you and that helps. Other times were more related to making a bad move but there was no constant intense pain like you might have with a toothache. You'll be numb and swollen so you don't actually feel much. The pain comeslater, when you heal and/or do too much. My back and head hurt from the epidural but that was pretty much it. Getting up was a lot more scary than it was painful. I had staples so I wasn't quite sure how to move because it felt like my skin wouldn't stretch but by the end of that shower, I was standing completely upright and unaided, just slow and careful. I gave the nurse a 3 for pain, a 6 when the gas got really bad, and then told them I had had menstrual cramps worse than that. Do tell the driver to drive slow and steady and to avoid potholes and bumps on your ride home though. :flower:

My pelvic pain was horrible. From between 40-41 weeks I was in a ball on the floor, almost completely unable to walk. It got significantly better after the surgery but I still have issues with it. I did not get any treatment at all for it though so I might have made it worse myself.

I keep reading about bloating after c/s. Do they give you anything for it? I'll be taking ginger tea to help with bloating. I hope they're okay with that.

No, they didn't give me anything. The main thing is to get up and about.

Yep, those are great. If you wear the skirt, I'd tuck it into the waistband when on the toilet so you don't juggle holding it and wiping as you really do not want to be in a twisting position long  I wore loads of yoga pants, granny panties (I threw some out at the hospital so have extra). I also wore a lot of large tank tops. Just loose clothing in general.

Last question/concern (for now hehehe): kinda dumb q but does having c/s interfere with bf or affect when milk comes in? When did yours come in? How was your bf experience in the hospital, if you did?

Again, my experience was different cause I was so sick so I don't know that the csection truly caused it. Both LO and I got an infection. I had developed a bad fever after the epidural (don't worry about it, it's not something that should happen much really) so, because of that, LO stayed in NICU for a 5-day course of antibiotics. He was put on formula of course but we worked on my milk asap. He wouldn't latch well at all though so I pumped and pumped. By the 6th day, I got a proper let down and pumped a full bottle. We struggled really badly with the breastfeeding though as attempts to latch him made things worse. He was spoilt with the bottle since it was so much easier so he didn't try very hard. Eventually, we gave up on breastfeeding as the hassle/experience became much too stressful and then painful when I got mastitis. I sincerely believe that if you have baby on you immediately afterwards and the bottle isn't introduced, you will be ok. If ever the bottle gets involved, you most likely can pump and give breast milk but you may struggle more with LO latching. That doesn't mean that your LO would have a problem necessarily, just saying what mine did.

It will go well I am sure. I am not scared to have another csection myself! :hugs:

- Mine was a elective csec. I stayed 3 days and wore the hospital gown.

- The first 2 days were painful but I got up and walked the next day, I gave a 5 out of 10. By the 3rd day it got better, and I was feeling pretty fine after a week. Got back to Aerobic after 2 months. After the Csec, i wore a Post C Section Belly Band so it helped. Don't lay on the bed, get off the bed the next day and walk, it helps too.

- I was extremely bloated for the first 3 days, and I kept drinking ginger tea, however it seemed that too much ginger tea caused my baby to have jaundice since I was breastfeeding so i stopped drinking after the 3rd day. doctor did give me med to ease the bloat but i can't remember the name.

- I wore a Post C Section Belly Band, and yoga pants, nursing bra and a button shirt easy for BF.

- There were lactation consultant at the hospital so it did help in guiding me how to bf properly. I struggled with milk supply for the first 3 days after Csec. only on the 3rd day, then i started seeing a little milk coming. In fact I struggled with milk supply for the first few weeks but I did not give up, i kept latching and pumping. Perseverance and determination are key!

Overall, my Csec experience was pleasant. However this time round I want to attempt a VBAC.

Good luck and I am sure you'll be fine.

First, how many days did you stay? Did you wear your own clothes while hospitalized or the gown?

4.5 we were supposed to stay an extra day but I asked my doctor for early release since we were tired of staying in the same room. I also was in for an induction and had 16 hours of labor before the c-section

How bad is the pain? Is it over a 10 from a scale of 1-10? (can you tell I'm nervous about the pain?) By the second day, is the pain noticeably better or comparably the same as the first day? I'd say the pain was maybe a 6 or 7 at the worst. Labor was much more painful. They give you pain meds to help and the most I ever took was the high dose motrin. It hurts more when you cough or laugh - anything that uses your ab muscles but the pain still isn't terrible. It gets much better after you're up and moving around

I didn't really have bad pelvic pain but all my pregnancy pains went away within a day or 2 after

I keep reading about bloating after c/s. Do they give you anything for it? I'll be taking ginger tea to help with bloating. I hope they're okay with that.

I didn't have any extra bloating but I was already super puffy from high blood pressure from pregnancy

I wore the gown the first day. After I got up and showered I wore a nursing top under a robe. So thankful for having that robe! Then I wore really loose, stretchy lounge pants with a maternity shirt. Anything loose fitting that won't rub will be good.

Last question/concern (for now hehehe): kinda dumb q but does having c/s interfere with bf or affect when milk comes in? When did yours come in? How was your bf experience in the hospital, if you did?

Breastfeeding was fine for me. Baby latched on right away and my milk came in around day 2 or 3 I think. It has been going great since. I do suggest a nursing pillow though because football hold is the best nursing hold for c-sections and you'll either need to prop pillows under your arm or use a nursing pillow.

Good luck!

I had my section today! It wasn't even as bad as I thought. Didn't feel a thing at all. I had no idea they'd started already while I was chatting away with OH and anesthesiologist. Then baby was out and just 20 or so minutes of stitching. I'm so glad nothing went went. Thank you ladies for answering my questions :hugs: baby was 7lb 8oz and 20in long. He's such a cutie pie :) thanks again, ladies <3

Congrats! I'm glad it went well! :flower:
