I usually make my own chicken broth and it's eaten pretty quick. However I've been storing homemade chicken broth in my fridge for a little over s week. Tonight I used about 3/4 cup for the homemade chicken gravy with dinner.
After I ate it, I became very paranoid. I actually made myself throw it up. Ugh!!!! I know I sound crazy, but now I've read that homemade broth can only be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days or you risk listeria?
I'm soooooo worried, and of course I googled it, and even though it's rare to get listeria, pregnant women are more at risk.
Advice? Opinions?
This is my 4th baby and I'm only 17 weeks.

Awww you poor thing!!! If you cooked it it shouldn't have a risk of listeria to you! That's why they always say to heat up your lunch meat.. but you also threw it up! I really wouldn't worry too much, easier said than done!! (and a week out really doesn't sound too bad) :hugs: I'm sorry you are so worried!!!!

Thank you, I did bring it to a boil on the stove and let it simmer for a few minutes. When I look back I believe it was a week ago today that I had made the broth and put it in the fridge. I know store bought broth can be stored up to 10 days so I was assuming it was the sand for homemade broth:( ah well.
I didn't eat a huge amount of gravy, and then threw it up, so I hope that helps!!
Thank you for being so encouraging xo

The boiling would have definitely killed the listeria. Even then, it's rare. I think we all slip up, we're human after all.

Thank you so much! My husband thinks I'm just being paranoid, and that likely it will all be totally fine. Just need to relax I guess. Your words have given me some peace! Thx so much xo

If you heated it it can't give you listeria. Don't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry about it either. Again...easier said than done but realistically...IF...and that's a very very big if...but if there was a chance of Listeria you would have boiled it out when you cooked it.
Happy pregnancy lady!! Xo

I have several dr friends one OBGYN. They all Say the reason why they say to avoid certain risky foods is so that you do not get sick while pregnant. It is very rare for listeria or even salmonella or any other type of food poisoning to affect the fetus. Usually it's just u that gets sick and it's not fun. I really wouldn't worry about the chicken broth xx
