I just found an old well in the bottom of my garden!!

We moved into this house last november and have been slowly decorating and doing the garden.
We got some turf delivered this morning to make the lawn a bit bigger, so Hubby and I have been digging over a massive flower bed that had been left to go to weeds and nettles.
As we were digging over, we found a large slab that was in our way, so hubby removed it.
Under the slab, we found a hole!! Throwing a stone in the hole, revealed it to be full of water.

Hubby got a big stick to see how deep it was, but it didn't reach the bottom of the hole!!

It was a very big stick!!

So we decided to shove a camera in the whole and take a picture to give us an idea of what was down there.
This is what was revealed!!

We are going to cover it over and make it safe for the time being, but will probably uncover it next summer and put an old fashioned pump on it so we can water our garden in style!!!

Hubby has made it totally safe. It is coveted back over at present, but next spring, we will uncover it and put an old fashioned hand pump over the top of it so we can draw water. We will also make it into a bit of a feature, but still keep it safe.
