Both hubby and I adore this name. It's Irish which we both are but living in the Uk.
Hubby refuses to change the spelling to how it sounds so people here can pronounce it and our daughter isn't spelling it out her whole life.

Question- do we just go with the Irish spelling or choose a different name?

Sorry.... No idea what happened to my second option in poll and can't edit it ..... Should say choose another name

I love love love this name. My friend's little sister is Kiva (parents didn't want to use gaelic spelling). I think (but don't quote me) its mainly pronounced Keeva even in Ireland now rather than Kweeva.

I would stick to the original spelling but then my son has a gaelic name. However it lloks more like it sounds and DH put his foot down completely at caoimhe.

I think its one of those names that sounds so nice that it will gain in popularity much like Niamh has. Most people know that name.

Thanks Hun. I was happy to go with Keeva but hubby won't have it lol booooooo. I like it pronounced keeva too but no hope. Only way is if we use the correct spelling. I can just see all my English friends on fb when we announce birth going wtf?????? Lol hehehehehe

Ive never liked the name so i choose a different sorry, however i wouldnt change the spelling if thats the name you love.

Oooohhhhh I might have come up with a solution if hubby agrees which is to use Anna as our first name which is what we've had since the start.....z

Anna Caoimhe instead of Anna Florence

I wouldn't be able to even guess at prouncing that name but I am from the US so maybe thats why, but thats why I picked different name.

Lol :)

I think we'll have to go with our original name Anna Florence. I just can't find a name that I prefer. Only keeva I preferred but hubby just won't spell it like this. Boo

dont like this name at all sorry

and people will never be able to pronounce it unless they are irish

i would have said like Kay-mee

Thanks hun

We've decided to go with our original name Anna Florence. Hubby couldn't part with Florence. For some reason he loves it and he's given me Anna.

I feel relieved we've finally decided tho. Had to book a ferry trip for around Christmas time and give bumps name lol. So it's final now. X

Anna Florence is a beautiful name... Irish names sound beautiful but just look awful written down... Sorry... I think she would of had a hard time at school trying to get others to pronounce and spell her name correctly which is a shame because u wouldn't of had that problem in ireland.. Finding names both u and ur husband agree on is very challenging. :)

I love this name, I know a girl called this and she's a really lovely person so it will always have positive associations for me!

Haha I'm glad you guys spelled out how that name is pronounced cause man was i butchering it trying to guess it! I think its pretty... but being from the US I wasnt even close to right with my guesses with the original spelling :)

Out of curiosity, how is the name Niamh pronounced?? I saw someone mention in this thread as well...

caoimhe is quite popular now in the UK too....

like another post says you can spell it Keeva aswell.

Niamh is pronounced Neeve :) most people in the uk would know this name now.

Caoimhe isn't a common name here in the Uk. Most would struggle with it still. It has been changed to Keeva to make it easier to pronounce here however the actual pronunciation is kWeeva. The 'w' of course isn't in the spelling Keeva and so hubby felt it was a different name. However I like Keeva.

I live in ireland and I've never heard it pronounced kweeva- its pronounced key-va

That's strange lol. I'm Irish abs never heard Keeva lol. But the W is very soft. Lol. Anyway doesn't matter now cause we're not using it. Lol still love the name tho. :)

I think like another poster said keeva is probably an english version of Caoimhe! Keeva defo not irish- but easier to pronounce! I think you Coaimhe is beautiful and anyone who knows your LO will know how to prounounce it. Good luck choosing!
