rights guys i'm rushing around trying to get my college work done, got a whole unit to be in for tommorow only had a week to do it (unfair as i got a month last time!) so i'm stressed and need help with a question !

the task is this ..

'Write a magazine article for the newspaper which explains the principles and values which underpin the support for individuals that use the day centre'

could anyone enlighten me to what the hell underpin means?!

It believe it means to support/give corroboration to (supporting evidence/confirmation that something is true), so what it really means is:

"principles and values which underpin/support/give evidence to the support for individuals that use the day centre"

To me underpin means like the basis or foundation of something.

Like the values that underpin a school are the core beliefs that it is founded on. That's explained shockingly badly, sorry.
