Im in agony...

I NEVER take pain killers - I hate taking them so that if I reeeeeally need them they're effective.

my neck, shoulders and upper back have been stiff and extremely painful for a couple of days and I need something better than paracetamol. It's Hebe's christening on sunday :( I want to enjoy it.

From what I've googled it looks ok to take ibuprofen - I'd like to use the gel too - but on the box is say consult a Dr....

I have a hot stone massage tomorrow afternoon but should I see the Dr before taking ibuprofen or am I ok to go ahead????

Sorry may be it'll not much help for u, but I took ibuprofen in tablets while had terrible tooth pain. I also try to stay without painkillers as much as i can. But my tooth was removed so i really couldn't (((. It's definitely allowed while u breastfeed. About gel I really don't know...

i wanna say ask ur doc for some reason i dont think u can i might be wrong though x x

I have it all the time as i have migraines and when I had masititus and really high temp the gp gave me super strength ibuprofen. Just dont take asprin

Thanks girls - I'm going to the Dr at 10.30 this morning coz apart from the neck/back ache, I have this niggling feeling that there's something not quite right with me ATM . I'll double check the ibuprofen, but I've taken 2 for now.

Hope you are better for the christening. x

my midwife told me to take it when i first started bfeeding because i was having really bad after pains if that helps?

So sorry you are feeling poorly hun, hope the docs goes ok, let us know xxxxx

Youve probably gone to the doctor and back by now! I really hope you start feeling better. Its fine to take Ibuprofen during BF, not during pregnancy though. I think diclofenac is better though, but that would have to be prescription.

Best of luck, get your OH to give you a massage!!

awww I hope you arn't getting a flu bug, hope you feel better hun! Just remember everything you est the baby gets.

Thanks girls.

I went and the doctor was as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike but the up shot was ibuprofen and paracetamol plus the massage is as much as I can do.

Hope you feel better soon hun. I was wondering the same about ibuprofen. I've got so much pain in my boobs. I've started taking some tablets to increase my milk supply and i'm now in agony.

What are you taking Becca?? I'm thinking of taking something just to increase it a bit as I feel like I could do with a little more in the evenings! :) x

A breastfeeding support lady suggested fenugreek tablets from the herbal shop and she also suggested i go to the doctor for domperidone tablets which are also known for increasing milk supply. Only started taking them yesterday so no results yet. Although my boobs feel really tender like they do just after birth when your milk comes in.

I'm probably too late for your query but thought I'd share my story as I had an issue about ibuprofen a few days ago. I suffer from regular bad heads/migraines which returned almost immediately after the birth. They are usually linked to bad sleep so you can imagine how frequent they are now! So I asked the health woman (not a MW, dunno what she is) who was round the day after I got home who said better to take ibuprofen than paracetomol as it doesn't pass through in the milk. So there I was happily taking it on occasion. Rang the doc's to ask about taking a double 400mg loading dose for really bad heads (a trick he's previously recommended) and he said I shouldn't be taking ibuprofen at all whilst BF. I was pretty mad about this! My sister works in a hospital to she asked one of the doctors who said all the painkillers will go through to the blood stream. My Dr had recommended diclofenac which apparently is stronger than ibuprofen but the Dr my sis asked said you can get this as a suppository which doesn't go into the blood and so not into the milk. Not sure I fancy that but handy to know. So I guess the rule would be only take painkillers if you really have to and take the least strong you can manage with.
