I've always wanted a wooden advent calendar for our children to countdown rather than the usual chocolate ones. At the risk of sounding like an old fart, they didn't have chocolate ones when I was a kid and my brother and I used to have the same Mr. Men one every year with just pictures.

Anyway, DH has bought one like this which I love! https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Christmas-Or...Celebrations_Occasions_ET?hash=item23041ae179

Anyone got any suggestions of what to put into it?

depends n size of space but:

cars
hair bobbles
hair clips
wax crayons or mini pencils
mini figures
coins for piggy bank?
socks rolled really small

That is a beautiful advent calendar! i think its a lovely idea, u could put in:
small bouncy balls
Bracelets/necklaces
hair things
stickers
pencils/erasers
finger puppets
little magnifying glasses

Hmmm i know this might be a bit late but could you not get a set of christmas figurines and have the children line them up on say the windowsill each day and do the same thing each year?

My grandparents had these little christmassy wooden people called the Thompson Family and it became a tradtion, i loved getting them out each day and lining them up

Perhaps you could fill them with small Christmas decorations and have one of those small trees to put them on. Then take the decoration out each day and hang it on the tree. Then the last one could be something to put at the top of the tree.

We have a fabric calendar which is the shape of a tree with 24 different pockets on it and my mum always filled them with little sweets, like a moam or something, and little pencils with funny tops, and in 24 we always got a pound! Weve not had it out a few years so this year we are and gonna surprise my sister, its such a tradition and we all miss it, i cant wait to inherit it in a couple of years. But we just got a few small sweets and sometimes cool rubbers for school or little bits and bobs that fit, our pockets are quite small on it.. but its nicer than a simple chocolate out a box of cardboard!

Cant think of anything else to add sorry, but i think its a great idea and i think i'm gonna do that next year for the kids!! Hope you manage to find some little bits and bobs!! x

Thanks for all the suggestions they were really useful.

I'm a bit gutted today. The advent calendar arrived but it was smashed to pieces.

Anyhoo... I've ordered a different one from a different place and hopefully we'll have it by Thursday. The children will be none the wiser anyway!

Oh no, thats not good, such a beautiful calendar!
I second what sw2129 said, i am planning on getting one and doing it next year for my LO, such a great idea!

This is exactly what my mum has round her house for my 2 girls. They love it already and its only day 2! There dead proud of their little tree, even if it does only have 4 decorations on, lol (2 a day, 1 for each girl) Its a fab idea!
