How were they fed before you found out? (see poll)

My first was part formula part breast the first couple months and showed signs in the first few weeks. Ended up exclusively on allergy formula.

This one is exclusively breastfed (10 days old) and hasn't really shown any signs- when I asked doc about it he said it's very uncommon for breastfed babies to have it. The only thing I am noticing lately is he is often grunting and fussing like he has gas. Wakes up from it quite often and sometimes cries. Not sure if he is just gassy or something more (no blood or mucous in diapers so far).

DD2 was FF before we got put onto nutramigen. She was 8 weeks old before we managed to get it and those 8 weeks were hell!! She cried constantly, she was either sleeping or screaming there was no inbetween. At about a week and half/2 weeks old she was covered in spots, not the milk spot type spots (although she did have those) but like full on pubescent teenager type spots. She was gassy and it stunk to high heaven and it also caused her pain to pass wind and with struggled to go for a poo again because of pain.

The nutramigen was like liquid gold for us, we noticed a difference after 2 days of being on it and to this day haven't had any issues. We also noticed that her intake went up as well, she's never been a big eater but definitely started taking more. Life saver for us!

DS was breastfed for ~8 weeks before we switched to comfort milk with various 'colic' remedies before switching to nutramigen at ~14 weeks, it took about a week to switch over and DS was a new baby over night!

He was uncomfortable, gassy, refluxy from birth and I was the one pushing for the allergy but Drs wouldn't listen until I'd tried all the normal reflux remedies - sometimes mums just do know best

My lo was formula fed cow and gate diagnosed with cows milk allergy at 5 months X

Breastfed for 16 weeks. He had multiple allergies: CMP, soy, gluten, peanut and a corn intolerance

My friends son is bf and lactose intolerant. She has to eat a lactose free diet so she can feed bf him

I just posted on another thread that the grunting for us was silent reflux related and brought on by gas. I eliminated dairy from my diet 3 weeks ago and he has been much better.
He is only breastfed btw.

My LO is formula fed and is allergic to dairy. I call bull on it not being possible in bf babies as when they wean they will be getting cmp unless they follow a dairy free diet.

Lactose is naturally present in the milk of all mammals, including human breastmilk, regardless of diet. I suspect your friend's baby Has cow's milk protein allergy or intolerance, meaning she can eliminate dairy and eliminate the problem

Yeah Gracie cant have lactose free stuff as it isn't lactose she is intolerant to (although she may also be lactose intolerant as we haven't tried)

For other cmpa mums, have you tried alternative cheese/milk like goats or ewes. I was told no by doctor but they also told me other incorrect info (such as not actually cutting dairy out when weaning, just to give her cheese and milk as normal but when in bottles give her nutramigen - because that obviously makes sense ...)

We use almond or oat milk in cooking, i haven't found the need for alternative cheese, but then cheese isn't something we eat a lot of anyway

Vitalite sunflower spread is dairy free and a great alternative to butter and Swedish glacé do a very nice chocolate dairy free ice cream!

Thanks for the tips!

We got some dairy free cheese a few days ago which she loves, we were having cheese and oatcakes so she had some too and loved it! Then she had cheese on toast the next day.

We use the new dairy free flora. Its actually okay! We used soya milk and almond milk too but I rarely cook with milk so it isn't too much of an issue.

Pret a manger do a dairy free bounty bar cake thing, we bought one to give her a tiny taste of it (she's never had chocolate or added sugar before) and she loved it. The bars are tiny too so its a good size for when she is older.

We have the dietician on Friday so I'm hoping they can help too.

I was breastfeeding and we only found out about the allergy at around 6/7 months when we started solids. He was fine with my milk and I didn't need to alter my diet. His now 4 and sadly still allergic x

Pumped exclusively the first 3 months before we figured out she had milk/soy protein intolerance. Switched to 3 prescription formulas and reflux meds hat made her worse. So finally we took her off everything and put her on a homemade formula we make that's goat milk based. She screamed the entire first 3 months of her life! Kept taking her to the doctor but we were told green mucousy poop on breastmilk is fun (it's not). Figured it out myself as the doctors were no help. She's 10 months now and we are just trialing soy. She gets goat milk in a sippy cup and we still make her formula and use a dairy and soy free butter (which is REALLY good) and a dairy soy free cheese (disgusting) and all that.

He was (is) solely breast fed. He also has other allergies too.

I meant to say, I bet doctors don't see it as much as many mums will notice a pattern and modify their eating patterns without ever seeing a doctor.

We saw multiple pediatricians and a pediatric GI and they were all useless! It's definitely up to Moms to do what thy think is best to ease their baby's pain from this.

Our GP was useless when it came to diagnosing my son! They always fobbed me off even when I stated that he'd react to anything with dairy in. We only got reffered to a dietician because LO went into hospital for bronchilitis when he was 6 months and I mentioned my concerns to the dr when she asked if he had any allergies. It was then that we were reffered to dietician and allergy specialist who gave him a skin prick test when he was 13 months old! Our GP told us it was ' to expensive' too send him for testing :/
