I habe no idea if this is normal amount or not but maggie has stopped drinking her formula during the day completely so ive had to try feed her formula more at night which means she is getting:

10 ounces formula per 24 hrs

brekkie - half yoghurt with 2 ounces formula mixed in OR fruit puree

lunch; 3/4 to a whole pouch ellas kitchen puree sip.at water (hardly any)

Dinner: what ever were eating and yoghurt with formula mixed in or fruit pudding

As much water melon as she can eat as she has constipation and wont drink anything during day.

Any suggestions on how i can het more formula and fluid into her by disguising it?
What are your babies eating and drinking??

could you offer her formula before the meals?
xx

10oz in 24 hours? I think 2-2.5x body weight in pounds is the formula to use. 10oz is not very much at all, does she have the right amount of diapers? I think it' 24-36oz for 6 months. If my guy isn't drinking much, I take him off the solids.

Mine takes about 50oz in 24 hours + 3 small meals (he's a complete pig)

^^ In my exp, if I offer Summer milk before food she won't eat the food.

On an ''average day' like today Summer's had :

Breakfast : Baby Cereal, mixed with 2 oz of milk

Lunch : 2 little yougurts, few carrot crisps.

Afternoon : Maybe 3 oz of milk?

Tea : Cheesy Veggies and Baby custard

Bedtime : 6 oz of milk

Between now and 8am she'll probs have anywhere between 6 and 10 oz, depending on how many times she wakes. I presumed the food was obv replacing the need for milk as they both fix hunger so they would drink less? xx

My LO has really reduced the amount of formula they are taking. They are still doing a night feed though, so I think they have dropped a bottle in the day and keeping 'the wrong one' at night time. I'm going to try to shift this though by limiting the amount they get in the night in the hope they pick it back up again in the day time.
I thought a petit filous was considered as 2oz of milk, and I usually mix 2oz of formula into the morning porridge. Through the rest of the day they will usually then drink about 14oz. Given they then have 2 x 2oz from food then they are getting the minimum 18 through the day, but they will often drink another 4-5oz in the middle of the night.

Hi hun. Omar went through similar phases. We switched to follow on at 7 months & he liked it much more than stage 1. I dont offer juice, but u can give deluted juice (few drops of fresh orange juice in water to change the water's taste) or baby juice a try to give her more fluids & ease her constipation. Did u try offering her formula with no distractions when she's sleepy in a dark room. Omar won't take bottles if there is distractions. It's trial & error hun. If u can get her to take 18 oz (the min at 6 months) it would be great. Good luck xx

My DD has reduced her formula intake and she is not getting as much as she should. My HV said that until 1 yrs they should be getting at least 1 pint of formula which is about 20oz. If your lo will not take it try adding it in with porridge or baby rice, or maybe try offering it in a beaker rather than a bottle.....

It has only been the last week that my LO has started to want her milk, and has now started to cry for it again. But for about 3 weeks she did not want it. HTH :hugs:

I should say, LO often point blank refuses to drink the milk, even if I don't give solids and offer milk they don't drink, but then I offer food they will eat load. The HV agreed it was better they do get the food rather than no food and no milk.
From the age of 6 months, once o meals they are meant to have a minimum of 18oz of formula

Shes been off her bottle or any fluids for 6 weeks now the pediatrician thinks its bcus she has an upper respitory infection and cant breath when drinking.

We've been weaning since 22 weeks and now Isaac is having:

Breakfast: 4/5oz bottle / half a sachet of Ellas Kitchen brekkie or half a weetabix with whole milk

Lunch: 4oz bottle: half a pot of Organix food or half a jar. Or 3/4 cubes of pureed veg and chicken. Dessert: fruit puree / rice pudding or a quart. banana and a few grapes or PLUM yoghurt

Dinner: 4oz bottle: half pot of Organix food or half a jar

Snack: rice cake / cucumber / Organix snack

He'll then have a 5oz bottle around 7 and again at 23.30 so all in all, he's having 3 meals a day plus, on average, 23oz. Sometimes more and sometimes less.

I've found that obviously if I offer milk at the same time as food, or just after, Isaac won't drink it so Isaac has his milk at (this are rough times depending on if he's awake or if he even wants it):

07.30
12.00
16.00
19.00
11.30

I then feed him as follows, these times are non negotiable:

08.30
13.30
17.30

My LO has

Morning bottle on waking (7oz)
Breakfast an hour later.. Baby cereal mixed with fruit
Bottle mid-morning about 11am (5oz)
Lunch at 12 normally veg puree mixed with formula
Bottle at 3 (6oz)
Dinner at 4ish normally a meat puree with veg
bottle at 8 (7oz).

My HV said that at 6months LO is ok on 21oz per 24 hours..I don't know if that's all 6 month old's though or just my LO :hugs:

EDIT:Sometimes she'll have a bottle about half 10 but not always

I b/f but it should still be relevant. I still feed on demand but she has a rough schedule of her own she follows.
I have a routine for solids and we eat together as I blw.
So most days go as follows.

Milk:
730
10
1230
230
5
7/730

Solids:
830 - normal cereal or toast and fruit
130- not usually too fussed so I don't worry but she has what I'm having
6 - a portion of what we are having

The only feeds she has dropped are the 1am and 5am, but she dropped one before solids and the other the week we started when, as we blw, she was only sucking then pushing back out with her tongue.

Milk should still take priority so scale back solids before dropping milk.

This is almost identical to what my DD has, although I also give her a jar of baby desert with her dinner. She went off her milk for ages, and was only taking 3/4 oz at each feed. So I put her up to three meals a day, and after a week she started taking interest in her milk again. I think it is to do with quenching thirst as well as eating, as she does not take water very well.

She will usually take exactly the amounts you state here - although her last bottle is usually less as she tends to be sleepy. She will sometimes only take 3-4oz, and if this happens I dreamfeed her when we go to bed, to top her up and see her through the night.

Alessa has 14-24 oz of formula a day depending on the day and her mood lol.

She loves her solids though!! She has a whole jar of apples in the morning, usually 3 tbsp of oatmeal baby cereal at lunch, and meat and potatoes or rice or in the evening usually half a jar to a jar. Like tonight she is having rice, chicken and vegetable baby food :)

**edit** I wanted to add she has NEVER been a big formula eater and its always been a concern with her doctor...but she has always gained weight well and been perfectly healthy! So she hasn't really dropped a lot of formula for her solids.

I noticed that aswell. The more she eats the more milk she takes although she did go through a stage at the beginning where she dropped most of her feeds so I stopped the solids and started again a few weeks later and she's been brilliant with it.

I try not to worry too much about the milk she takes in bottles because alot of her food is pureed with her milk so she's getting it that way but my HV doesn't seem too concerned & she's gaining weight in a way the HV is happy with so I'm happy

DD is also gaining weight well, and has been following the 50th centile line perfectly since she was 6 weeks old (she was on the 25th to start). She gets weighed for the first time in about 7 weeks on Monday - and judging by her chunky monkey thighs she could be heading over that average line!

Every day is different with her, but I just make sure I offer her at least 4 bottles and her three meals. That way I can be sure that she takes what she needs. Some days we don't feel like eating so much - and I am sure they are the same!

My LO has 7oz bottle when she gets up which is usually around 9.30. She has a couple of ice cubes of veg puree around 12 and sometimes some fruit puree as well and another 7oz bottle at 1.30. A 7oz bottle at 5.30 and a 7oz bottle at 9.30 with some baby porridge or baby cereal.

Our hv said we should be starting to introduce meat soon and that once she starts on protein she will start decreasing her milk feeds. We have just been taking the weaning slowly as she was 13 weeks premature and with her being premature we were told we had to start weaning early (ie when she was 5-7 months actual age which meant she was really like a 2-3 month baby when we started).

She has her check up at neonatal in 2 weeks so I will be asking them a few questions - I'm finding it all a bit confusing and scary!!
